If anyone is going through Gatwich for any reason (even domestic flights), the airshop or whatever it's called has Aberfeldy 12 Year 1L for about £33. Outstanding stuff and retails for over £40 usually. In fact, it may be any airport with the same chain of shop as I got one in Gatwick on the way to NI for me da and one in Belfast City Airport on the way back for me.
Abergeldy is the core malt in Dewar's White Label, a blend which is nearly all exported to America. As such it too is mostly gets shipped out. It is nice.

My flatmate made old fashioneds last night (with Woodford Reserve bourbon). It was pretty good.

Old Fashioneds are my favourite! I drank too many last night, sore head.......
I had mine with Makers Mark.

I picked up some Bowmore 15 darkest yesterday. Oh my, it is delicious!
I really wanted to try a sherry finished peated malt, and i was not disappointed. The delicate floral fruity flavour of the sherry cask combined with the salty peaty tone make for a complex and beautifully rewarding dram. One to treasure. -

^ I've had that - quite tasty indeed! very noticeably sherry like at the finish

Oh good, I fancied something that I'd not tried before. Always a risk of disappointment.

I second the "very good" description. The 21 Portwood is also very nice.
I've even done the tour of their distillery where we were allowed to sniff the contents of a 1964 sherry cask.

Just picked up a bottle of suntory hakushu bourbon barrel for the grandad based on him saying he doesn't like peaty whisky, I thought Japanese ftw.
-
• #971
I understand the Hakushu Bourbon Barrel is amazing. Where did you pick it up?

Got it from the whisky exchange. Having tried yamazaki 12 and Hibiki 12, thought I'd test it out on him first... I really want the yamazaki 18 but its not exactly cheap.

Yummy though.

Large glass of the Aberfeldy 12 for me this evening. Had a Macallan 21 at Hawksmoor a few weeks ago, anyone got an idea of where I might source some of that?

Having tried the Yamazaki 12 at Gaucho & Bodega Negra, my girlfriend bought me a bottle for my birthday in July. Safe to say that me and my two flatmates got through it a little bit too quickly.
I work near the Japan Centre, and they have both the 12 & 18, which have tempted me on more than one lunch break recently.
me too tried the yamazaki at the George Orwell in Essex Road (soon to be renamed the Hops and Glory) which has a range of japanese whiskey
