  • Ballbag!

  • Got a spare £100,000?

The whisky, made from a specially-crafted blend of rare malt and grain, was distilled and began maturing in 1952, the year of the Queen's Coronation.

  • "Jim Beveridge, master blender, said"

    For reals?!?!

  • Picked up a bottle of the Yamazaki yesterday. Cracking stuff.

  • Ace. Looking forward to it!

  • What time?

  • I can head over after work. I could probably be there by quarter past 6.

  • Meet up in a pub first then go over together to get past signing in etc? or just roll up?

Doesn't look much in the way of bike parking around there, suggestions?

  • Meeting in a pub first might be a good idea. As far as bike parking, I'll try to have a look around tomorrow and report back.

  • Not great parking. Old Compton Street has absolutely nothing and most of its neighbours are the same, although some have a bit of railing you could take your chances on. There are a few Sheffield stands on the corner of Romilly Street and Frith Street, which just round the corner, but they fill up very quickly. The stands in front of the Palace theatre are even less likely to have space. The ones on Wardour Street in front of St. Anne's Church are probably the best bet.

I know there's plenty on Broadwick Street, which isn't far away but isn't next door either.

  • I can't make Thursday guys :(

  • I'll send a PM to everyone going with my mobile number. If anybody wants to leave their bike in the carpark at my work, that is an option. It's a little ways away, across from the Shaftesbury theatre on High Holborn, but it's got a gate and the bike rack should be pretty clear. Of course that means you leave the whisky club when I do...

Any preferences on pub to meet up at first?

  • I'm in the same building as D.Generate so I can also assist with the bike parking thing. I will be on foot most likely.

As for pub - no idea.

  • Have a dram on me, sob

  • gf just got me a bottle of Ledaig 9yr. Rebadged by teh whisky shop, not sure if it was a single cask run or just slightly different to the normal bottling, but tastes sweeter than a full ledaig I'd had before.
Damn fine though, not my usual taste (i.e. not peety as hell), but its bloody lovely :D

  • Either work for me.

  • i had my stag do in edinburgh last weekend (don't start, i'm from there) and at one point went on the comically terrible edinburgh whisky experience "ride". a snail's pace ghost train past a hammy out of work actor waffling on a flat screen while light bulbs stand in for "AMAZING!" yeast and "INCREDIBLE!" barley, represented by a wall covered in well, barley. It was total risable bollocks. BUT, afterwards you got really nice little talk about the different regions and characters of the various styles of single malts followed by a tasting and a look round the world's largest private collection of scotch and then into the bar for four free samples and the opportunity to buy more from a menu of hundreds. i ended up really enjoying it.

shame i was painfully hungover over from having rinsed most of a bottle of glenmorangie with a few mates before lunch the previous day.
