  • 90s computes with my 18th birthday.

  • It was very nice and I need to spend more time getting acquainted, but I seamlessly moved onto the Aerolite and drank rather a lot of it with ease. I think I might have to get another bottle but then I saw this and am wondering whether to try it instead: https://www.masterofmalt.com/whiskies/the-ileach-peaty-whisky/

  • It's around £55 these days, but it's not hard to find it for under 50 in the supermarket. £42 is a very good price, especially at the duty free as the days of actual savings at the airport are long gone.

Got a bottle of Ardbeg Wee Beastie on pre order (couldn't get a bottle when it first came out), I can't wait to try it, I love young islay's and I really hope we start seeing more distilleries doing young name statements instead of NAS.

  • Cooling off, Buffalo Trace style

  • Been down a Youtube bourbon review channel wormhole and genuinely had no idea how much stuff is completely not available in the UK.

Seem to be a bunch of sub $30 and even sub $20 (!) bottles that get reviewed really well and I think only Old Forester brand (never heard of them) is available here that I can see and even then, only one of their variations.

Is there a secret UK bourbon source that defeats my Google-fu?

  • If it's not on Master of Malt or Royal Mile you may struggle. A lot of the smaller batch stuff isn't made in quantities to export, plus without the distribution network, getting any available product overseas can be hard.

Japan is particularly bad - they have an incredible range of amazing single malts that are JDM only.

  • Tried the Wee Beastie yet? Got a bottle from Amazon as couldn’t find it at any of the online whisky shops. Can see it being a regular in the cabinet. More of a peat bomb than the 10, haven’t tried it next to Uigeadail yet but it’s great for the price point.

  • £20 on Amazon at the moment

  • Good,?

  • Cheers. Ordered

Was getting nervous about opening up one of these which I set aside when they were available and I bought one to drink and one (or two) to save*
The ones that hadn't increased too much over the last 5 to 15 years have been resampled recently. A duplicate Balvenie Peated cask was an expensive Christmas dram.

Macallan Editions 1 and 2 were nice, but I can't contemplate open one now 😞

  • It gets mentioned on every “best value” list I can find and I can see why. Quite sweet and I think I’m done with the over 100 proof.

The company that makes it (and Jack Daniels and Woodford Reserve and lots of other bourbons) Brown-Forman opened a UK office in January and is setting up its own distribution arm so there might be more of the OF and Early Times lines which lurk in the sub $30 price bracket in the US but everybody seems to love.

  • Not had chance, just wanted to grab a bottle before they sold out again. That young should be a real banger. I've got a small bottle of new make spirit that I got given at the Laphroaig distillery on my stag do, it's unbelievably intense (and not just because it's about 75%) I wished they'd do a 3 year old (which I reckon ardbeg will looking at how well the 5 is doing.)

  • Arrived today, top tip ta.

  • Am waiting for delivery.

  • Alright. I would say for £20 that's fucking ace.

  • This is a great "starter" whiskey, fairly light flavour (not a punchy Islay or the like) but still a pleasant drink.

(i'm not well versed in Irish whiskey)

  • Anyone seen any pre Christmas bargains? After something non-peaty, or some bourbon.
Otherwise I'll just buy more Arran 10...

  • Tesco has Woodford Reserve boxed with old fashioned cocktail syrup (?!) for £25. They have Makers Mark for £25 too.

Not in your request but I like peaty so I noticed that Lagavulin 16 was £49 and they had a 10 year old Ardbeg for £37.

Amazon has Buffalo Trace for £20..

  • old fashioned cocktail syrup

What's that? Like a knock off of Angostura bitters or something?

  • Looked like it. I picked up the box and was promptly told to put it down as I have too many bottles already.. 😆

  • I'm pretty good limiting my spirits to almost a 1-in-1-out. I've been getting stuck into my Texas single malt of late.

  • Oo great heads up, my woodford reserve is good enough for one more boulevardier. To Tescos!

  • I'm yet to actually try it but my next purchase will be Tomintoul 16 year. It's a speyside so not peaty.
