My sis got me a bottle of Bufallo Trace for Xmas. Never had it before, as I always thought it was just your standard supermarket fodder (which I guess it is, really)
It's nothing special, but is nicer than I thought it would be. Half decent for a backup sipper.

And also, 2016 was ok for booze. Missing a bottle of Hudson small batch Rye, and Wild Turkey 101, cos I was prolly to drunk to remember to take a photo. Standout for me was obviously the Pikesville. I really liked the Rittenhouse Rye too, even though some people don't rate it.
Michters Rye was also lovely. Bog standard Wild Turkey is my go to everyday sipper. Every bar in the world should have it as their house bourbon IMHO.Excuse the bottle of Psycopomp Gin at the bottom, it was all I could find on my phone to make up the 9 photos for the all important instagram shot! (Top notch localaly distilled gin tho!)

Excellent, I work about 10 mins away from there
Hippy - let me know what that tastes like, I'm quite skeptical.

Like this idea, might have to steal it for 2017 ;)

The guy I got it off said he didn't notice any hops but he'd not had a 'proper go' at it.

Just googled it and wished I hadn't. Anyone else getting fed up of the small-batch marketing bullshit which is absolutely everywhere?

Visited the Dalwhinnie distillery at the weekend - not too fussed about the 15yr old but the Distillers Edition (finished in sherry casks) was top stuff.

Got a bottle of this coming back from the states with the GF next week. She arrives back in the evening after a Uni exam I have. Win!

They had the Nikka Taketsuru at the airport duty free for something like 2500 Yen in November. It's great and a bargain at that price. If they aren't likely to go to a specific whisky bar/shop then that would be a good shout. They also have good selections at Isetan department stores.
At most seven elevens they have Kirin Fuji Sanroku Whisky which is like £15 for 70cl and actually really very good and not available outside of Japan -

If they've got a decent selection at the airport might get them to purchase there. Makes everyone's life easier.
Current thinking is to get a bottle of the nikka coffey grain, and a bottle of the taketsuru...

I have just been enjoying Nikka coffee grain whilst in Finland, courtesy of friends who went there via Hokkaido.
Recommended.

My Dad got hold of some Amrut fusion single malt. First Indian whiskey I've ever tried. Really, really good.

Be on the lookout for Yamazaki sherry cask, heard that's a good one.
My dad got something special. Singleton malt cask strength. He refused to open it saying it would evaporate. Well drink it quicker then! I'll forgive him he gave me the cardhu.
