I went to Islay again last weekend for a wedding this time, which was held at the Ardbeg distillery. The weather was great and I/we had a great time. Much whisky was imbibed. Also went a bit a bit crazy on buying it, picking up the following:
- Ardbeg 10yo (absolutely love this, one of my very favourites)
- Lagavulin 16yo (this too, the other end of the spectrum as far as Islay peaty ones goes)
- Bowmore 12yo (nice and balanced, one for sloshing about readily when entertaining)
- Bowmore 17yo (a good deal and delish)
- Talisker 18yo (the dog’s bollock IMO)
- Bruichladdich Botanist (Gin Thread >>>>>>)
- Ardbeg 10yo (absolutely love this, one of my very favourites)

Ooh. Interested in the Botanist. Solid list SP.
(although I would have added the Bowmore 15 y.o. Mariner and the Distiller's Edition Talisker.)

Wasn't into the Mariner at all, too salt and shallow. Like a rock pool.

SP did you try the Ardbeg Uigeadail? that stuff is amazing
-

Yeah I drank stacks of it at the wedding, and the other weird-named one. Really nice, nearly got some but I knew I'd regret not getting the classic. Trying to get a modest collection going.

Woah momma, nice choice there!
Don't think the 20 year is worth the cost, prefer the 15 personally (buy a bottle every December)
Quite a nice story about his golf caddy on the back of the 20 though.

The marzipan flavour of the pvw was just incredible. Definitely the best bourbon I've ever tasted. The Yamazaki 18 had been on the to-do list for ages so it was nice to finally try it.
Coincidentaly, we ran out of whisky and bourbon this week so its shopping time again. Might get some Talisker... That was the first proper whiskey I bought and remains a favourite.

Also, Stockholm is fucking expensive for this sort of thing. Such poor.

How expensive?
I've found a bottle of 23 year old Van Winkle behind a bar in London - £70 a double. -

Has anyone tried the £20 Islay from Asda?
Beautifully smoky. I just bought a few bottles! -

They sold some PVW over here in sweden a while back, 12 or 16 bottles i think. I pre ordered one bottle as soon as they where available but it never showed up.
Sorting out provisions for a camping trip next week..

Fucking bravo.

It wasn't quite £70 per double but the whole night got a bit silly.
Talisker 57 North it is!

I'd love some of the Yamazaki 18. Or even some 10 come to think of it.
-
• #1645
Yeah, the 18 would be nice to have but its a bit spendy.

I'd try the distiller's reserve Yamazaki or the Hakushu bourbon barrel - both are around the price of the Yamazaki 12yr
I bought the former a couple of weeks ago but haven't got round to testing it out (I have tasted it at a Suntory event though.)

Had a bottle of Hakushu Bourbon barrel last year, totally yum.

The Glenlivet Nadurra. Currently soothing.
After only having discovered Scotch in 40s ive got a lot of catching up to do.
Should have 40 years to work it out -

^ try it with 5ml of water is the consensus on Master of Malt
My first Fathers Day is coming up and the little one has offered to get me bottle (good lass that she is). What would people go for out of Aberlour Malt, Auchentoshan Classic or Singleton of Dufftown 12yo?
