Left all my Islay stuff at uni, all I've got at home is Highland Park. Going down very nicely though.

Bought a bottle of Jura Diurach for the mother in law. Cost more than the other Juras which I like, but don't think I rate it higher. Missing the smokiness of the other ones

I managed to finish a bottle of Chivas over the last 2 days. I am a little disappointed to see that theyve done away with the cork and now its a screw off... WTF?!

I've also been drinking Benromach (if that's actually what this is). Very nice but very full-on.

Despite picking up the Glenrothes Robur Reserve on the way out of the airport it has been a Bourbon Xmas for me. Egg nog made with Basil Hayden's (small batch Jim Beam) and straight Woodford Reserve, plus a large duty free bottle of Single Barrel Jack Daniels on the way home. It's a shame that there are no real other strong competitors to Woodford Reserve flavour-wise. I certainly hope that changes over the next few years.

Waitrose have just sent me a card that profiles what I buy so they can send me custom special offers, and also a £5 voucher.
I think I might buy that bottle of Laphroaig Quarter Cask for less than £20 tomorrow. -

Yeah it was Benromach - yeah it is quite robust - quite smokey at the finish
Somehow they managed to leave the security tag around the bottle neck and I never noticed as it was in a box - so it looks stolen. Had a couple of people round the other day giving me funny looks.

One more measure left of the Aberfeldy, will see what's on offer in Morrisons tomorrow.

That Aberfeldy. Bought a bottle for a mate as a gift last year. Helped put a dent in it. Bought a bottle of it for him this year for Xmas. Helped put a dent in it.
Found after two years of necking it its a bit tame. Too much sherry cask malarkey methinks

Had a Yamazaki 10 yr last night. Underwhelmed, subtle, summery. Unfort, it's winter here.

I know next to nothing about whisky, I've got a couple of bottles on the go at the moment, one is a Balvenie Doublewood which is pretty nice, very sweet and very easy to drink. The other one is a 10 year old Talisker which is almost the exact opposite, very smokey and spicy, but very nice in a different way. I'm right at the end of the Talisker, are there any recommendations for similar whiskys? I want to try something new but I'd like something a bit more fiery than the Balvenie, to give me a bit more choice and variety.

Highland Park 12?
-

I've had that before, my dad's favourite. Very nice and if I had the money to buy nice bottles of spirits regularly I'd definitely have a bottle! I'd like to try something I haven't had before though.

Ardbeg is grand.
The Laphroaig 10 is a different taste experience and pretty widely available. If your flush Springbank is unique.
All these are splendid in there own way and so is the Balvenie.
Take your time and try em all

Oh, and Oban which rates as one of my all time favourites - lush saltiness!
You've had more than me I see
