It's that time of year again! I thought I would get in there early before everyone made other plans.
One of the nice things about my birthday is that I get a different mix of people every year, and a different mix of pizza toppings!
This year it will be in my new home at 87 Pepys Road, Se14. We'll start at 7 and go till midnight, and if all goes to plan we'll be able to eat pizza and drink whiskey around an open fire in the back garden, so dress warmly!
If you haven't been to one before, here's the deal:
I make all the sauce and dough, you bring one vegan pizza topping of your choice. This could be fancy vegan sausages from the health food store or a random can of new potatoes from the back of your cupboard. We eat random pizza that everyone helps to top and drink whiskey until we can't possibly do either anymore.Looking forward to seeing anyone that can come!

PS, last year there was an EPIC dessert pizza, I'm thinking of bringing that back for this year. Keep it in mind when selecting your topping.

Jaquie informed me a few nights ago that Morrison's best whiskey is now being made by some posh scottish distillery, so expect a few bottles of that to be flouting around.
I'm pretty sure that their own-brand Islay single malt is re-badged Laphroaig.
I'll not be in London, but I'll keep you in mind as I celebrate my birthday too! Have a good 'un! -

Can you get vegan cheese suitable for melting on pizzas?
Not Really, Cheezly does alright though see this.
http://www.quarrygirl.com/2009/01/12/best-vegan-cheese/I've made a few decent pizza "cheeses" recently from blending cashews with 11 secret herbs and spices.
(soaked raw and or roasted cashews/soy milk/roasted redpeppers/some tamato paste) is a good place to start. -

sadly, vegan cheese doesn't melt. its cassein that makes it go gooey.

No, the newer varieties do melt--Cheezly and Daiya. They work on pizza. I haven't tried Daiya (only available in the States, I think), but I don't like Cheezly much (although it works OK in the occasional recipe).

oh i have an awesome recipe for vegan cheese, using nutritional yeast. it's actually the cheese sauce from vegan mac-and-cheese. now that i eat dairy, i still prefer mac-and-cheese with this sauce to real cheese sauce...
-2 tablespoons non-hydrogenated margarine
-1/4 cup unbleached flour
-1 3/4 cups water (to boil)
-3/4 tsp. sea salt
-dash of freshly ground black pepper
-1 tbsp. shoyu or soy sauce (thanks michelle for turning me onto shoyu!)
-1-2 teaspoons of minced garlic, or 3/4 tsp. garlic powder
-pinch of turmeric
-1 tablespoon canola oil
-1/2 cup nutritional yeast- Melt the margarine in a saucepan over medium heat. Add the crushed garlic and cook for 2 minutes.
- Beat in the flour with a whisk, making a roux. Stir for one minute. Lower the heat if it bubbles too much.
- Stir in the hot water, sea salt, shoyu or soy sauce, garlic powder if using, turmeric, pepper and any other spices you want (paprika, onion powder, chili powder, whatever).
- Stir for another minute until the sauce starts to thicken. Whisk in the oil and the nutritional yeast.
it's sooo yummy. pour it over the top of pizzas, or put it on macaroni and bake it.
- Melt the margarine in a saucepan over medium heat. Add the crushed garlic and cook for 2 minutes.

Is your oven broken or are you just referring to wiring it in? It's a simple job if there is already a 30A point installed.
-

Needed to be wired in, which my landlord did last night while we were celebrating polish christmas.
The kicker? The new bloody oven doesn't work either! I need to wait till next year and call a repair man.
Oh well, merry christmas everyone! I'll see you lot at souths on Monday for a delayed birthday celebration!
happy birthday nhatt!
have a great time.
