Not exactly wht you're looking for but
Pass plus counts as one years no claims (but maybe only if you passed recently, which I know you did not) costs about £120
Better still an Advanced driving test counts for a lot with many insurers I think. (£99 http://www.iam.org.uk/eshop/membershipshop/sfl.htm)

Both good things to have, and something that I will do in the New Year.
Unfortunately I need to be insured from Monday!
I was hoping someone on here might have a friends and family type deal from an insurance company to be honest.

I'm with Elephant, very good tbh. Been with them for about 4yrs - I pay about £55 a month over 10months when most others were quoting me around £900/1,100 per year

Cheers Pistanator, tried Elephant (and taking a mates advice) stuck my parents on as named drivers.
Result= £585 fully comp with full business use. That's over £1,000 cheaper than the prices I was finding at first.

Watch that though, if you have an accident they may loose their NCB as well. Try Quinn Insurance, they are based in Ireland and have given me the cheapest quote a few times.

Nope. Some cunt smashed into my car and drove off while it was parked outside my flat, I had a £300 liability cover and the damage cost £1,400. They paid the £1,100 and I was shitting myself the following year waiting for the quote, it was actually less, didn't get stung at all!!!

How friking expensive is it to get car insurance these days!
Holy shit!
I just tried to get a quote on the exact same car i had 5 years ago.
5 years ago it cost me £300 to insure it with zero no claims.
Now out of all the quotes I've gotten, the best is £990!
And that's with 5 years of no claims!!!!!I wouldn't really bother getting another car as i use the bike all the time, but my no claims runs out in Nov, and then it evaporates into the insurance ether. Never to be seen again. So I could do with getting one just to keep the no claims, and for the occasional time i need to use one.

If it's only the occasional time you need to use a car, it may pay to ditch the motor, insurance payments etc and sign up to streetcar or some such if you're in London

Manchester bound imafraid.
Could do with a car for work occasionally.
I'd more or less abandoned the idea of a car.
New job is kinda forcing me to reconsider the car thing as i often need to hulk shit around. -

Let them provide you with a car then.

How far is your place of work exactly?

Ed is about to tell you the best way to lug shit long distances; my money is on some kind of home made bike trailer.
-
• #19
Never you mind Will.
I use a proper trailer.

I'm no farmer but I think you'd be better with a tractor and trailer.

Or possibly a muck spreader.

I use a spoon.
As we seem to have been talking about cars a lot recently in this thread- I need to get insured on a car that I am buying.
Does anyone have knowledge of/nefarious connections into a cheap insurer?
Most quotes that am getting at the moment are around £1,500 per year, which is a little high in my view.
I've tried the normal suspects, gocompare etc.
