I think before 12 is probably a good idea, however after 12 we could have a drunken pedestrian skittles contest, they're so easy to knock over when pissed, extra points for chavs, and bonus points for chav couples.

Well it seems that a fair number of peeps are up for it. I finish work at 6 and can be at a start point by 8 at the latest. Only problem is I haven't really thought of a route as I've had no time with college work and christmass family balls and all that jazz, plus you guys were slow to reply... But ah well> Anyone got any preplanned routes the have squirreled away or would you be up for a random ride around the deserted streets? It looks like before 12 seems to be the general concensus and then we can all follow the person who sounds like they're going to the coolest party.

i went up town on me bike last year.
no cars. it was great.
but i was virtually the only rider up there.
i am definitely in.
No you weren't - I was there, with two friends! We watched the fireworks from the roof of Westminster School (friends in high places). But the pedestrians were a bloody nightmare. I'm half-interested in this ride, but slightly more inclined to find a less crowded hilltop in South London, where there'll be fewer people, and probably a better view as well.

Shall we at least decide on a meeting place and time and then see where the wind blows? I suggests some time around 8. Where's everyone situated? I'm west.

stay away from embankment / central near to central london near to 12. the cops run rolling road closures starting at 7pm. i'm keen for a ride early on but later on it gets messy and you might as well ride away from town.

Right, I'm in for this now.
- It's going to be properly cold
- 11.00pm-1.00pm in Centre will be full of bike bliss busting lary peds.
So how about ...start in East at 9.00, Foundry (Somebody!) Do a rapido tour de Centre with quickie pub stops to defrost, then swing out via (Chiswick?/Notting HIll? /Chelsea?/St John's Wood?) for destination alehouse before making tracks to Primrose Hill in time for view of London Eye fireworks.?
Could be persuaded to ditch the whole 'hear Big Ben strike 12' thing, but do same ride over three hours, starting early, as 7.00, say. (I mean, why miss Jools Holland's Hogmanay Hootenanny thingummy?!).
