  • Anyone here remember the craze for long distance skating of the mid 2010's?

Just found this pic of me on the top of a Norwegian mountain from an issue of concrete wave. Good memories

  • Is that a trailer on a skateboard?! This all looks rad, and very tiring.

  • Trailer indeed. It was awesome once it got up to speed.

  • So mountains, like did you push up 5km climbs? And then how do you descend with a trailer? Or is that bag just full of spare shoes?

  • Yep. Just pushed up. We went up and down (the other side) the Trollstigen which was pretty epic. I went through one shoe on my braking foot in the 6 weeks we were skating.

  • That's ludicrous, you're ludicrous.
    Are you Ludacris?

  • I remember a bit of this. A Brit did the length of the UK in 2006:

@Ifonlyiwerebelgian Long distance pushing - how do you stop your joints grinding to dust? How did you tackle the boredom of slooooow? Did you/do you push both sides?

(Longest push I ever did was the Bath to Bristol, did it as fast possible, never again!)

  • Yep. It was Dave Cornthwaite who started it all for most us at the time. Nice guy.

I did most of Jogle myself in 2009, but ended up in hospital after a crash on dartmoor less than 100 miles from the finish!

The bath to Bristol was the classic, I did the first few with the Skatefurther lot.

Yep, I pushed both sides (you get good quick and the trailer aids stability). I found that you kind of changed your pushing style to save the pummelling effect of hitting the floor. You tend to lean forward more and pick up the ground on the way through. Very low deck height too, so less far to squat each time. I was 'working' with subsonic skateboards at the time to help with the design of what is now there GT40, I had the prototype for most of my trips.

In turns of boredom, once you get fit, you go pretty quick. We went out for a 40 miles skate on my stag do in 2016 and the best man's brother couldn't really keep up on a bike. (It had been a while and hips were fucked afterwards).

It was the distance skating that eventually got me into cycling. I just liked the endurance side of things.

  • The Americans are still at it and smashing out silly distances. Current 24hr record is 500kms

  • on the lookout for a half-decent 8" (or thereabouts) board, anybody have one they would be up for selling? Thanks.

  • Wow. Crashing 100 miles short of Lands End? I think that would finish me off. Very interesting to read tips on the technique of long-distance pushing, meanwhile. I'll have to look at that again.

I just liked the endurance side of things.

I think this is the bit I am missing, but maybe the kits helps. Wide trucks and a dropthrough deck I can see would be very stable at speed, but can you pump it? : )

I did Bath/Bristol on a giant slalom rig which was very tippy. I tried to mix flat-land pumping with pushing but still ended up with a massively knackered knee!

  • Nice little film

  • Shitpost: If you didn’t see on the decal thread, finally sussed the Satan/Santa Cruz sticker with background.

  • My daughter was the same. We bought her a penny board which looked great but is actually pretty hard to skate and get the basics on. We later bought her a regular street set up but in mini size and it was so much better for her to get going.

  • these are great : )

Remembering hours I’ll never get back ripping off the Santa Cruz logo for Shoreham skatepark’s old skool days.

  • ^ this was meant to be photoshopped onto a beaten up old board with lots of other stickers. I just see the characters falling over the further right they go (yeah nah, don’t give up the day job).

There must be a font for this now?

  • Shit that looks like too much work. Also, as far as a font/typeface online, I don’t think I found one when I looked. Maybe I didn’t look very hard.

  • Pedro Delfino section in that is amazing. Was never very into deathwish but I really enjoyed that whole video.

  • The new park (replacing the old wooden one) in Wanstead is looking rather nice.

  • Wanna try a 9"cruiser - anyone got one I could borrow?

  • Define cruiser? To me: longish wheelbase, wide trucks, larger/softer wheels?
