Update on my 'old man learns to skate again'
3ft and 4ft quarterpipes are being dropped in on. I'm not sure I ever did this when I was a kid (no skateparks back then) but I'm enjoying the fear/adrenaline.
Working on my rock to fakie, kick turns etc, just real basic stuff. My ollie needs a LOT of work to be halfway functional again.I'm skating on weekend mornings, and my peers at the skatepark are the parents of the 4yos on scooters. Everyone assume a dude in his mid 30s hanging around the ramps is going to be good, so it's a disappointment to everyone to see I'm terrible.
It's fun though. I recommend to everyone who used to do it as a teenager. I'm already replacing bearings and thinking about wheel upgrades.

Still have three completes in the shed. Was always shit but kept up the self deceit (for at least 25 years) I could skate, but was pretty much totally rubbish, albeit with great enthusiasm. Was always the most fun, mind.

Way tempted now to go for a roll around the Watlington (Oxfordshire) ‘bowl’ which was the last haunt. Maybe if the weekend’s dry :)

Decided to dig out my old deck and go and get some hardware from Brixton Baddest, got a funny look and a 'You sure?' when I said it was a 7.5, then told them it was 12 years old and it made more sense. They gave me an 8.2 from the old deck pile out of sympathy :D Gonna go out and find a long flat smooth bit of ground to relearn how to go forward.
Also shocked they've knocked down the estate by stockwell bowls, every time I go to an area of London I haven't been in a year something's been fucking knocked down, barely recognise this city any more (boo hoo cliched Londoner moan no.79798)

Yeah had a go on the 8" and it was a lot more forgiving and stable but reckon a touch extra would accommodate my feet nicely

advice please - only just back on a board after a bajillion years. I'm finding these 52mm / 99a wheels a bit too much of a young man's game. I'm thinking of picking up some 54mm ricta clouds to handle my local torn up concrete skatepark with a little more grace. Any other softer wheels at that size I should be considering?

Have skated Ricta Clouds since 2006 or so; the 78a are best for cruising/filming since they don’t really slide well - I’ve ripped ones off the core before - but soak up the rough; if you’re skating park/general stuff I’d go for the 86a ones. Got a set of them at the mo and they’re a good compromise if 99a are too hard for you. Haven’t tried the 92a ones as yet but next on the list.

Dug out the skateboard today after a good 6 year hiatus. Things went predictably well...

45 years old and not touched a board in 25 years. Gonna get the board out and go skate. What possibly could go wrong?
