  • right i have a layback post in my hand, about 1.25" of laybackment, and it's only 9 inches long (from seat rail to minimum insertion line), is that ok?

  • yeah, that'll work, i think mine is 350mm. is it convenient to come by oyb?

  • Yeah I'll come past on my way back from work on Monday

  • cool, we close at 6 so send me a text if you need me to wait around a bit.

  • well I finish at 4 'cause I'm on early shift - i've put it in my courier bag so that i dont forget, but you'd probably best text me around 4:00 because the hectic-ness of work usually makes me forget to do anything i had planned to do straight after work. for example, i have been meaning to buy a new teapot after work for the last two months.luckily the crack in my current teapot is not so severe that i can't brew a quality cuppah. ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

  • mine's in my bag too - it's heavily scratched though. the bottom half is actually more silver than black. it's up to you if you actually want it.

  • Anyone local got a super-short (i'm thinking DH MTB length) stem 31.8 in black?

  • I've got a 60mm stem to get rid of but I dunno if it's 31.8... what's standard road bar size? 28?

nah just have it man, give me something else youve got lying around like an 18 tooth sprocket or summat

  • I have finally discovered Dan's sales technique, he uses this thread to get you to come to the shop to give him bike parts, then lures you upstairs to see all the products, and uses clever verbal cues to subconsciously implant subtle cycling images in your mind. Effectively he uses a psychological sales pitch which is barely detectable but highly effective, ensuring that you will spend at least £25 on a new water bottle, cleats and socks that you don't need

  • Socks! you've been had.

  • i learned everything i know from derren brown. it's all about the taps to the shoulder. check your pocket, you'll find i nabbed that tenner from your wallet too.

  • ha ha ha! Pastry - thats fucking genius. Come to think of it - every time i go into the store Dan performs a praying mantis like swaying motion - forcing me to enter a trance like state. I then find myself walking back up Bradford St., with all manners of cycle related goodness.... weeeeeeeeeird.

BASTARD! I was saving that for pasta and other post-ride carbs :-(

This is part of Evans staff training, no lie.

Every last bit from store temperature to layout is thought of based on psychology.
Staff get trained to profile everyone who comes to the shop, greet them at a particular time, and also the right kind of interaction to make clinch a sale.

    On another note:

I am after a pair of bullhorns (42cm pref) and brake levers to match, ideally ones which are usable either as cross tops or as bar-end types.

I have a pair of good cinelli drop bars, cinelli & ITM stems, shimano 600 drop brake levers and much more. for swappage.

    Money too if need be.

  • Socks! you've been had.

screw clean water, antibiotics and walking on the moon; performance socks are mankind's greatest achievement!

  • anyone have a really short ahead stem? i'm talking 60mm or less, for 25.4 bars.

  • I have a 60mm one. Is 25.4 standard MTB size?

ETA right, I think it's a 26.0 but I only used it with 25.4 bars and there was still plenty of room for tightening.

I am desperate for a really short 31.8 stem so if you could swap one for this 60-90mm one I would appreciate that...

  • Still got this for sale if anyone's interested locally..

    Fluted/aero seatpost. 27.0 Made in Italy. £15

  • hi guys,
i am looking for a few pair o' cheap skiing poles to built a few mallest with a few local friends
or if you have a few complete mallets state their price :)

  • ah - the ever-present search for ski poles in birmingham. i drove to kidderminster last week for a pair i won on ebay which turned out to be flipping crabon fribe and waaaay to flexy. there's £5.50 and two hours of my life i'll never get back.

scour ebay or do what i keep threatening to do and call around ski equipment shops for 2nd hand ones, or try ackers/the snowdome. apparently 7075 aluminium is the best.

    come play polo!

  • Yeah i kinda expected to be unsuccessful but i can always try :)
Ill keep my eyes open, my boss wanted to give me his pair of ski-poles which ended up to be fiberglass poles.

    ill keep searching :)

Got 2 poles sitting at home doing nothing.

You can have one, especially if you can sort me out with a piece of pipe so I can make the other into a mallet.

  • nice one shamim - i've got a few pieces of pipe at work, pop in some time except this monday as i'm off.

  • very early-days lugged aluminium peugeot frame + chainset, roughly 60cm, definitely stripped mech hanger (also re-welded), and possibly stripped cranks. picked it up at a car boot today and thought someone might want it. you can have it for what i paid: £10.

also a selle-royal saddle which would benefit from re-surfacing: £5.
