If he drives then something like £150 is nothing, like what you spent on a Tax Disc or for someone to have a look under the bonnet.
Faulty logic there...
I drive, driving costs me a lot of money, thus £150 to me is a lot of money because the cost of driving leaves me with less money to spend on other things... like bikes.
Think about what you're saying before you come up with these logical fallacies....

Guys and Gals a little help please.
This evening (2/1/2012) my flatmates bike was stolen from our house near aston uni Birmingham. It WAS locked up but during a discussion over whether to ride or take a taxi the bike was unlocked and then we jumped in a cab.
The bike is a Fuji Newest 2012 model- size 54-bike is all stock spec aside from some brand new breaks that were fitted today!!
Dont have pics of exact bike but here is a link to the same model---> http://tonysbicycles.com/images/library/Zoom/fuji_newest_2_12_z.jpg
MY FLATMATES HAD BLACK BAR TAPE AND TOE STRAPS.
Please PM me if you see/hear of one for sale. I will reward you lots of beer and a bottle of Jagermeister.
Cheers.

Looking for a beater to replace my bike which was stolen last week.
Preferably a road bike, but may be interested in a town bike too.
needs to be a large frame as I'm pretty tall (6'2")
aesthetic condition not really important, but needs to be a relatively decent ride.looking to spend no more than £75, would rather not buy off Gumtree/eBay as there's too much stolen stuff on there and I don't want to perpetuate the cycle which took my beloved bike from me in the first place!
contact me at tom(at)miracledigital.co.uk
cheers.

I had my bike pinched last week aswel, bloody annoying :/
-
• #3336
If only you all had polo bikes in reserve!
I can't wait for some lightfingered lout to pinch my bike so I can claim on the insurance for a new bike, and spend a few weeks spinning around with a 32x20 ratio and a wheel disc.
Perfect bikes for the upcoming snow too.....

Despite working in a bike shop, and spending most of my free time with cyclists I still haven't heard of a D-locked bike being stolen in Birmingham in 5 years...
Only numpties get their bikes nicked in Brum.

^ i've heard of two people getting their d locks cut at bournville station in 2012. Bike thefts have defo been on the increase in the city, and not just by chancers it now seems.

Well now I've heard of two. Way more from garages/sheds though.

Ive seen evidence of stuff like this at university station too (car jack). But I have a sense that these bikes were left there for a very long time. And bikes left for a long time at train stations are very vulnerable to not only thieves but staff as bikes are not supposed to be left there. Right next to university is QE hospital, I have posted many pictures of the common locking styles over there in the "how not to lock your bikes up" thread. People leave brand new £1k bikes there every day with a shoelace lock on the wheel only. And its fine.
Birmingham is incredibly safe in terms of bike theft while locked up. If you are in a rough area your bike might get vandalised but no one will want to nick it. Someone may as a last resort try and take your bike in a mugging type deal, but they would really rather have a phone or cash. Bikes have no value when these people can get a brand new full suspension bike with disc brakes for £80. Most people cannot tell the difference in quality and nicking a "racer" or polo bike with no gears definitely would not appeal.

Have you even seen my polo bike? It is NICE! I almost stole it from myself.

Yeah, DFP speaks the truth. Theft from the street seems to be ignorant opportunists. I hear a lot about expensive bikes getting nicked from sheds or garages though - I think that's where the organised connoiseurs are operating.

must be pretty tooled up to defeat a u lock, i'm guessing a cordless grinder with a 1 mm cutting disc..wire locks are useless, i lost my key to one and with a certain pair of handheld cutters defeated it in under 5 seconds..

Like I said, I saw evidence of jacked open locks at university station. There tends to be lots of partial bikes attached to the railings looking abandoned. Perhaps by student who have left for holidays or longer. There may be one particular person who goes after these bits, but the bikes are junkers so it makes little sense when a short walk over to the hospital would get them stuff like this;

Apparently there is a big thing where thieves use strava to find the homes of people with fancy bikes, that and the internet; stuff like pinkbike etc.

Selling my 12" stx cell lacrosse gloves. I Bourgh two pairs in the US and decided to keep the 14" pair. Looking for £20.
Classic example with the main problem of the 21st century, throw it away and get a news one, fix up the racer and give it another lease of life!
