also i really enjoyed the medium speed games where the more experienced of us couldent score. a great way for us to develop our passing games and for beginners to learn how to look for space and shoot.
someone from LHBPA should deffo chat to sean who is working at bikeworks cause he was saying something about this being extended past the 10 week period if its successful

On three occasions, strangers have mentioned westaway to me. Upon answering their question about what the mallets and helmet strapped to my bag were, they said 'ohh polo is at westaway'.
Once in the elevator, once in the pub, and once at the doctors. Must be advertised well.

That's exactly what Catherine (?) from the council said last week, if the take up is good they'll extend it...

7 new players yesterday, spread the word people!
-
• #5056
Awesome!

Awesome news, the courts are cheap to rent long-term (£7 an evening apparently?), I expect we can easily convince the borough to stump up the cash for more sessions if they prove successful.
-

i think, after the last 3 weeks, they have been very successful thus far
and im finally convinced it its the best court in london, the size is perfect. just a sweeping, and better sides and it would actually be spot on.

Boards like the ones at Newt would be awesome, it should be pretty easy to get a broom from one of the caretakers/cleaner around there... In for next week!

Without any organisation behind us, 3 hours court time would cost £14.50 to student or unemployed person (plus a 'one off' registration charge of £5)... There's some kind of session price (10 adult sessions for £29 if you're a student) although what constitutes a session is beyond this bit of paper in front of me.
Shaun said the council/whoevers organising it, have paid £70 for ten weeks. Which frankly is well worth it. Who wouldn't pay a pound to play on what is probably the best court in London!?
-
• #5061
Maybe we should even look into having it two nights?!
Wednesday for the beginners sessions and maybe so kind of advanced session on Monday's?
-
• #5062
best court in london!
...probably the best court in London!?
-
• #5063
It's still West though...
I will be coming over to check up on it some Wednesday in the next few weeks.

Finally a John H meme...

ha!
I think we should give the loaner mallets out for people to borrow if they feel they need to practice during the week. There were around 9 unused mdpe blue ones that could be put to use...?
Great fun, but I must disagree about the mid-games, I think one experienced player and two newer ones would work better for several reasons.. lets try it. -
• #5069
I'm with Prav on the mid games, and a couple of the beginners said they didn't like it.
Probably fine for a beginner who can hit the ball (as their roles were more or less reduced to striker), but not much fun for the ones that couldn't.
By the way not trying to diss the idea kev, I liked the idea of trying to mix up the beginners and experienced players, and I'm glad we tried it, but would say it had a very mixed reception!
-
• #5070
Oh one of the grass players suggested we try 3 touch? Maybe instead saying that the third touch must be too the beginner? So either pass on your first or second touch or you have to pass to the beginner... Anyway, let's try other mixes.
-

Just keep passing to the beginners and calling for the ball, or do drills... the difference in ability is only an issue if people hog the ball? Personally I like to take goal when playing with beginners, then you can practice keeping, feed the ball back up the field, etc.
Kev: I expect it's cheap because it's an asset to the surrounding area (youth development through sport, etc). I imagine it has several funding sources behind it, it's a great way to use an odd space.

Thanks for having me down yesterday. Really enjoyed it despite hitting the deck a couple of times! Prav - thanks for letting me using your bike, hope I didn't do any damage to it.

• #5073
Its impossible to damage Prav's bike. Its invincible.

Hi Plind - no bother.
It is a bit of a heap anyway.
Will be upgrading all my noodles to flexinoodles soon anyway. -

Thanks tom (waves).
It has gone into walls and fences and flipped round and round and have dented the steel gusset bars and snapped cranks and been hit by cars and still going with my fat arse on it.
Good luck breaking it next week PLIND
