  • The A127?

  • I can just imagine it: "wonder what this does..."

  • The A127?

I know it's in Essex, but does the rule of law truly not apply?

  • Certainly not. I've had mine on the limiter out there on many occasions.

  • It's got av. speed cameras these days and the slip roads are quite short. I'd actually recommend the start of the M11 from A406, or the 5 lane wide section of M1 just after M25 junction.

  • Those will all be suitable. However, there is a section of road outside Reading which is both straight and level for about two miles. I got a 996 Turbo up to 177 along there a while ago.

  • Call me a massive blouse, but I'd rather use a closed road or circuit.

If something breaks at 170mph I'd rather it affected only me.

  • It was 4am.

  • I'm an old man, at 4am I'll be in bed with my blanket drawn up to my chin.

  • I'm very much with Vinyl on the new Defender, in person it looks fantastic. And when you bare in mind how many after market companies are modernising the current model to make them look 'more' (twisted performance/BBH/JE/I could go on, there are probably over 100 serious companies in the UK alone).

There are a few enthusiasts that are complaining that it detracts too much from the 'work horse' look of the defender, but when you bare in mind just how long the current model has been produced it is time to modernise it. Many people said the same when the Series 3 was replaced.

It looks modern utilitarian to me. And yes your right, it will sell in MASSIVE numbers. Bare in mind how many people are buying defenders these days who never take them off road as people are disillusioned by the current RR models. This will be a perfect fit and Landy Jag will make huge money. Also a good opportunity to upgrade the thing as the internals are a bit ancient these days.

Already a few after market companies producing concepts for the market as well.

  • Call me a massive blouse, but I'd rather use a closed road or circuit.

Problem with a circuit is you won't get up to max speed at any point. You need to find a dis-used runway or one of those 30-130 and max speed events.

  • We hit 146 on the autobahn with the old engine, acceleration was slowing at that point but there was more to come- then a truck pulled out.

A nice long runway would be excellent- where can I find one is the question.

  • I'm an old man, at 4am I'll be in bed with my blanket drawn up to my chin.

Rubbish - you're probably younger than me!

I'm very much with Vinyl on the new Defender, in person the guy who designed it isn't actually retarded. And when you bear in mind how many japanese companies are offering after-market add-ons for modernising the current model to make them look 'more' (twisted performance/BBH/JE/I could go on, there are probably over 10 comedy/serious companies on this mortal coil alone) and less geriatric in its' engineering.

There are a few enthusiasts that are quite rightly complaining that it detracts too much from the 'work horse' look of the defender, but when you bear in mind just how long the current model has been produced it is time to modernise it. Those country types deserve a walnut-dashed leather box to potter about the country estate in. Nobody said the same when the Series 3 was replaced.

It looks "modern utilitarian" to me - whatever the hell that means. And yes you're right, it will sell in MASSIVE numbers to all the people who can't afford a Strange Rover. Bear in mind how many people are buying defenders these days who never take them off road as people are disillusioned by the current Rolls Royce models. This will be a perfect fit and Landy Jag will make less of a loss. Also a good opportunity to upgrade the thing as the internals are a bit ancient these days.

Already a few after market companies producing concepts for the market as well, so we can expect to see a real peach from Khan.

    Fixed.

Give them a ring and see if you can run up the length or does it have to be just the 1/4.

    It's at North Weald.

  • Fixed.

Proper lolz. Esp Khan cos they already have ruined it.

  • I agree with the Nurse.

M1 is good even from Hendon when it follows the railway line. 183 along here.

Quiet open A Road, the A413 Wendover by pass is good, single lane action. Around 1.5miles roundabout to roundabout. 183.

Early morning or late night, the A5 is pretty unbeatable, but particularly north of Milton Keynes. I got banned on this road years ago for 126 (trip to Towcester magistrates), so be careful.

For an immediate speed hit, more or less in town, the A40 by RAF Northolt is a winner. Maxed out many bikes along here.

M4 westbound from Kew to the Heston services. Cameras until you drop down off the elevated section but after that, I'm pretty sure there's nothing westbound until heathrow. A legendarily famous, late friday night bike superhighway. Done well over 170 here last year, pretty much for old times sake.

Between midnight and 5am, the roads are yours.

  • I was just in Normandy for the week - 120mph all day long on the autoroutes there - some amazing roads in Normandy, and no police - first place I would go with a fast car

  • Ha ha. No.

I'm on it and in communication with Hobo. His mum will not know wtf happened to that car.

I am not a mini nut, though I did own a Cooper S so took a bit of an interest in modding them - the schnitzels were the best I tried in terms of not turning a car that lready had pretty crappy ride quality into something that was useless on anything but smooth roads - I was under the impression that the AC Schnitzer Eagle was the fasted modded mini out there that can still go round corners

    http://www.motoringexposure.com/6632/ac-schnitzer-mini-eagle-takes-over-the-hockenheim-circuit

I am not saying there aren't a wealth of other options out there, but the Schnitzers aren't shit, especially when you think about the service.

I have had a Brabus, and the best thing about it is you know it's been done properly and has full factory backup.

  • That's so cool. Wooden chassis and all.
