  • Not yet :(

Been too busy to take the 5 for an MOT, don't want to sell it un tested.

  • have you had the manifold done yet? My mech in Bath (I'm going later today of tomorrow as soon as my effing HT's turn up on my doorstep) can weld anything, but he's not close. Perhaps find a special build mechanic, or you could ask at Euro Car Parts in Wembley, they seem to know everyone and everything down here in Poole so might be the same there...

  • Just seen the tags, prepare for the turbo Volvo onslaught.

  • I'm not gonna lie, that golf with bentley rims looks sweet!
And in response the Bentley, Conti speed model, did have those special wheel nuts.
My dad had his vossens nicked after 4 days!!! Had the special locks too. That's off street parking in London for you indeed! Mum has had tyres slashed last week as well :/ I'll stick with my bike

Yeah I got exhaust done at a place near my parents' place. You know you're getting a good job done in the land of custom exhausts.

  • google revealed all

one parked very similarly, not the same though

  • Got my 306 back today, considering it went along/on top of a barrier at only 50mph there's a fair amount of damage. Only half the bumper is left, headlight and indicator units are gone, radiator is formed to the shape of the engine, bent wishbone, bent subframe, wishbone bushes torn, bent suspension strut, shagged driveshaft, hole punched in the sump. Stupid design of barrier, almost flipped the car because of them.
Fucking idiot recovery people bent the leading edge of the door where the wing had been pushed into it. The door would open enough for someone to get into it fine but no, that's not good enough for these pricks, wrench the door open.

A nice long weekend off to strip it down to a shell then weigh it in.

  • ^ Ouch. Did you let the missus borrow it?

  • If only I has a missus... I was on the way to work. Rainy day, dual carriageway. Inside lane was stationary, outside lane was clear. Person pulls into the outside lane around 50m in front of me. Not a chance to slow down so I was as hard on the brakes as poss without locking up aiming for the gap which is rapidly getting smaller. I get in the gap but the wheel touches the kerb of the central res and pulls me onto the cable barrier. Im then on top of the cable barrier and it's doing nothing to slow me down but it's having a damn good go at putting the car sideways and lifting it up on 2 wheels (sideways at 50mph on 2 of 4 wheels is scary guys, don't try it) I manage to bring the car to a stop without causing any injury to anyone, no whiplash or anything.
Sadly the car that was behind me didn't have a chance to slow down and ploughed into the back of the car which pulled out on me.

It's taken the insurance company a month to let me have the car back and sort out the settlement.

  • FFFuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

That's tough. I has someone in a B-class pull out in front of me from stationary while I was running at 60/65. How someone can be so fucking stupid to pull out 30/40 meters in front of a 16 yr old vehicle that weighs almost 3-tonnes I'll never understand. Lucking Landy had the good sense to make the brakes incredible and I managed to stop but did mutilate the drivers side ball joint, I like to think thanks to the braking! ;)

Anyway. Tough break. It sounds very much like the car is a write off surely? Hope you get what you want...

  • Lucky one there.

It's a cat C. We can fix it but I've already bought a Pug 405 for £200 and fixing the 306 would cost more than it's worth. I think I have a buyer for the engine, rear suspension was brand new at christmas and the leather interior I put in should sell for about £150. So the parts I strip off should bring in about £400 + weighing the shell in @ £180 per ton = about £550. More than I could sell the car for, even if it had tax and mot.

  • How much did you buy it back for? Or did they just give it to ya.

It bothers me that CAT C's % write off value is so fooking low. I'm going to need to get an agreed value on the classic at renewal in march if I'm to chuck on some new wheels and get her sprayed.

  • I had to pay £56. Cost me a favour and £30 in fuel and bridge toll to get the car back.

My mum's car was deemed a value write off. We haven't touched the damage since it was done 3yrs ago, it's only a mildly bent door. Mending the damage would cost less than £100 which kinda puzzles me.

  • I meant CAT D above. C is full value write off isn;t it. Sorry.

  • I think that's how it works, not entirely sure

  • what a sound!! this is after news of an australian rallying privateer, announcing plans to race a rally spec aston martin gt this year.

5 mins into this film and just realised I haven't stopped swearing yet! Amazing.

  • Finally got a letter from 3rd party insurer after nearly 14 months after the accident. 3rd party statement says they were fully established on the roundabout when I hit them, therefore not their fault. CUNTY FUCKING BITCH. Going to go this weekend and measure up the roundabout. I am fucking fed up of this.

  • I thought you had a witness? That is soggy bolloxs though. Sorry.

In all honesty you'll prob have trouble convincing the insurance company as they're gonna look negatively on a young man in a modified Mini. Although I'd fight it tooth and nail as they may still go in your favour.

  • No witness, and I always knew it was going to be a fight. As you say, 25 yr old driving a stripped out Mini, nobody is going to take my side in a 1 on 1. My counter-argument is going to be showing by means of lengths/stopping distances that at the point of incident she was not established on the roundabout, therefore she contravened the highway code by not giving way. She keeps mentioning speed and lane changing in her argument which IMO is just bluster and show as it's an NSL roundabout, and I was clearly indicating. She has even highlighted that she was aware of my intended route so cannot cite lane changing/not seeing indicator as a reason for pulling out in front of me.

The point I made and will stand by is that it was perfect conditions, I was alone in a vehicle with no sound system, thus no distractions. She was in a vehicle with 2 passengers, one a young child. Who was more likely to make a mistake? She was aggressive at the scene of the accident, I was calm and did not make any accusations or attempt defamation as she did, classic psychology states that guilty parties throw the first punch. Also, I'm not sure whether to highlight the fact I was running semi-ceramic aggressive brake pads which reduce my braking distance massively. Therefore, her accusation is invalid as it would have taken me less time to stop. The fact that despite braking and steering in an effort to avoid her retarded intervention into my path, I still collided with her shows I had very, very little time to avoid her.

  • If your insurance company knew you had the brake pad I'd mention it. It not like you were powersliding a front wheel drive car around a roundabout is it?
