Wonder what the servicing costs are ;)

Took my wife's 2008 Beetle in for annual service and MOT on Thursday. Got a voicemail at 17.30 to say they're having problems with key, the car won't start and the scanner says the cpu can't communicate with the key. Do I have another key and can I bring it in. Also, they're closing at 17.30....
So I take the spare key in on Friday morning. Roll on to Friday at 17.00 and I get a call to say its ready to pick up.
Get there at 17.25. pay, get the keys and the car won't start. All the mechanics left at 17.30 and I now have to wait till Monday for someone to look at it.
In the 14 years my wife has had the car, there has never been a problem with it not starting. Never. Only happened the garage.

Seems odd if it started with the second key and now no key.
Is there an issue with VW stuff?
-
• #80580
Perhaps the battery was removed from the car creating the issue?
-

They would have needed to start the to get the car into the workshop, to do the MOT tests and to get the car out again right?

First Gullwing Mclaren to accomodate the Mamil driver?
-
• #80585
It’s my Dads. Offered to take it out once a week to keep it going. First time today.
Put £20 of fuel in and it stopped shortly afterwards. Head gasket failure, oil in the water. Rot fucking everywhere. It had 0 oil in it just for luck.

Oh fuck.
At least you can buy all the panels.
-
• #80587
That rotten panel is £13. Head gasket kit is £30 plus the work to replace the parts.
It went on eBay last night. It’s always sad to see a classic go, but I’ve got two regular cars and an older Audi so a 4th car isn’t a good idea.

Finally fitted those hi-spec brakes but the standard braided lines are too short to turn the wheel more then 1 turn of lock in each direction.
Fitted them anyway and then spent about 30 mins getting it back in the garage not turning the steering wheel beyond what the lines would allow.
Ordered extended MX5 lines from HEL, will fit and bleed when they turn up.
Look nice under the wheel even if they don't perform any better than stock brakes 😂

You could paint the callipers just give it extra vroom vroom vibes.
Canary yellow

Sorry, if you have yellow calipers you have to have carbon ceramic discs.
-
• #80591
The jobs list is growing
- replace with carbon ceramic breaks
- Paint callipers yellow.
- Refurb wheels
- add coil overs
- replace with carbon ceramic breaks

I have coilovers thank you very much!!
Wheels will be refurbished soon, decided to sell all 3 sets and buy Enkeis RPF1-RS wheels as I've recently discovered that they're nearly a kilo a wheel lighter than my ATS DTCs, which are already crazy light at 5kg for a 15x8 wheel.

Definitely not going for yellow caliper, happy with the black

Next time look up wezmoto, they do the same HEL lines cheaper.

i had RPF1s on the ignis for a bit in 15x7, can confirm they are outrageously light

My 2006 SC430 has gone to the garage for repairs for the first time in the six years of ownership. A broken road spring, a little noise from a front wheel bearing and rear redactor rings have started to corrode likely to knacker the ABS sensors. The bill may be scary though. It's it first time at an independent, but I got tea and biscuits there, so hopefully as well looked after as the main dealers.

I love that car. It’s so timeless. It’ll be stunning in another 20 years.
The only thing I couldn’t understand was the back seats.

Has anyone used Cataclean?
Feedback is either gushing or claim it makes no difference.

For £15 give it a go and then post your results here.

It's a 2010 diesel definitely in need of an oil change, so maybe I'll do a test before I change the oil.
Cheapest way into an Aston…
