  • The logistics of that become very tricky - I'm flying from Singapore to the UK, then onto Vienna, back to the UK, then driving to Briancon.

Posting from Singapore would cost an absolute fortune.

  • Cheaper to hire a van for the French trip?

  • Oddly when I go to a van hire place it only gives me cars as options - possibly because I'd need to pick it up at Heathrow.

  • Going across Germany with a box on the roof would be quite sad indeed.
While I would love to see a (general) speed limit on the Autobahn, going a bit faster is quite nice.

  • No plans to drive in Germany, just down to Briancon and then around that area, with one or two weeks in Morzine.

  • Don't listen to them. There is nothing sad about cruising round southern Europe on a cycling holiday.

This is infinitely the most sensible train of thought yet.

    Drive the car you have.

  • Changed car so I've a set of Subaru wheels with lightly used winter tyres in the garage that need a new home.

245/35R18 5x100, had them on our Subaru Legacy 2011, know they'll fit on similar Outback and Levorg

  • Did you go for braided lines too?

Also is there still an issue with quality of oil filters and the oe Japanese ones being the best.

  • i have a thule alpine 500 narrow roof box. just went and measured it - 55cm wide

  • i debated lowering mine when i replaced the shocks but as it's not a 'sporty' one i decided to keep it standard height. however, i think the sti foresters deffo look better lowered - the body kit and arch gap don't really work for me.
how much for a set of coilovers?
as others have said though, probably best to run it for a couple of months and sort out any niggles before getting into mods.

  • All of our cars have braided lines yep, HEL branded ones i think. We also find fluid makes a huge difference, so make sure you get the right stuff for your application

  • Lots of the imports I got had brake lines that were stainless but no plastic outer and looked like fake stainless outer so replaced as mentioned as a positive in the sales stuff

Stopped using HEL after you could buy the lines cheaper from eBay than direct trade.

Try wezmoto, last few car and bikes have come from them and the bits are stamped HEL. Can send photos as proof.

  • Thanks! How far inboard of the edge are the clamps? Do you think it could be fitted so it overhung (overhanged?) the ends of the roof bars?

  • The HEL lines we use are made to order, locally in NZ, they are different to meet local certification standard

    NZ doesn't have ebay.

  • What could I use as a nose cone on a Peli case to make it somewhat less of a bludgeon?

  • That’s certainly more custom than a purloined traffic cone duct taped to the front

  • i'll measure them when i'm at home and let you know.
i run mine centrally on the bars with a bike either side - that is on a forester though so a bit more space to play with i imagine.
maybe you should join the subaru gang?

  • When I have an income again many things become possible!

  • maybe you should join the subaru gang?

  • They are very moreish.

  • Interesting. I've actually been thinking about learning to fly. ⛳

  • 100% @RonAsheton fozzy brakes are spongy because the brake fluid is old and absorbed a lot of water. I use higher spec fluid because it still has good temp rating even when it has absorbed a bit of water. @mcmyk I'm sure you can explain that better!

The HEL brake lines are quality. I just fitted some to my car for better pedal feel. It does make a difference to feel, but not effectiveness.
