  • As long as it’s under 3 years old.

Oh, and you pay COE of $138,000 plus duty and tax to get it on the road.

  • That's nice and all but it's basically an old dirty diesel?

  • Interesting. I'd expect the 5 doors to have normal windows.

That said with all cars having air con, plus pollution levels it doesn't seem like that big an issue. It probably keeps cost and weight down, and at a guess might make hitting safety scores easier.

Oddly I find in having the back windows in our Golf down >30mph creates an insane internal vortex.

  • i can assure you i wasn't coal rolling any cyclists

  • Looked at 3 IQs, all in poor condition, even one at £6k. I do not miss car searching at all, no fun.

  • Any recommendations for an inexpensive dash cam?

  • I just got a viofo a129 plus with an additional rear facing camera, which I really like.

Their newer/top model has a better sensor and as such better nighttime quality, but is much more expensive.

If you buy direct from them you can get 5% off with the code "ashleyneal"

  • I've got the truck, it's great (see NDS pic). Thought I was being an auto electrical wizard fitting the dashcams. But I can't get the fucking hardwire kit to work. 🤡

So now I'm getting ready to be rid of my Suby XV and replace it with something small and fun. MarketPlace is awash with options, bit overwhelming TBH. Even found a couple of little hybrids. Cheap and good on fuel are the two boxes it needs to tick. It won't get driven very much, it's just a tax write-off thing. 🤑

  • I like how you've parked it 2ft off the road so it looks more rugged.
Sparkly tires showing you up though :D

  • That was the day after I got it. It's just done three hours on the highway in that pic, no rough stuff yet. 😋

And I was told to park there by my client's very grumpy mum. "Don't block the driveway!"

Lucky you got it then - wouldn't have made it on that terrain with anything smaller.

  • You're right, I'm very lucky.

  • Shameless advertising, please buy my towbar mounted bike rack so I have more space in my garage:

  • I regularly take the XV up to Glasshouse, there are some amazing trails through the forest up there. A lot of them are unmarked on GPS which can get a bit freaky when you can't get a signal and you can't remember how the fuck you got to where you are.

This 4x4 will get us to even more remote locations, even further from a cellphone signal. It will be rad. So the next question is, satellite phone or CB radio?

  • Saw an Ineos Grenadier IRL yesterday. Didn't immediately hate it/ but also it took quite a bit till I recognised it. Not as huge as I'd expected.
It was obviously in Barnes, parked badly, outside a Gail's.
Forgot to take a photo because me and the Lab had stopped in at the worlds most expensive corner shop for a Kombucha.

  • I've had plenty of VAG groups TDI's over the years.. old 90bhp non-pd engines, then a few 1.9 PD engines, all had over 100k on them and ran them all with tuning boxes.. always went well and gave consistent high MPG's.. My brother still has a 2000 polo 1.9TDI with 260bhp and 380 lb/ft.. it's been to the Nürburgring and we went left the ring it came home to Belfast on one tank of diesel..

  • I've seen quite a few around, more than I'd expected. I wonder how many (non-gentlemen) farmers have bought them - they had a big stall at an agricultural show we were at recently.

  • Actual farmers will continue with their battered Hi Lux or Isuzu (with a Gator for wet periods). Estate owners will buy them purely as something different to turn up to a shoot with their chums (Twickenham attendance compulsory).

  • Do those 'repair your leaky aircon unit' kits work properly? Where you have a spraycan of sealant and a spraycan of the aircon liquid?

Every time I take my car to kwik fit they break something on it and I really don't want to take it back.

  • Sat phone and some version of epirb. And always keep a slab of water in the tray... you never know.

  • I have one, can confirm it's a great car. I don't need it as have a wagon for family duties but haven't got around to selling it yet. I use it once/twice a month to goto the garden centre/recycling centre and it always starts up quick.

Although going down the motorway in 5th is annoyingly loud/revvy.

  • Find someplace else?

A/C systems are a bit fiddly and the gas is not pleasant environmentally.

I have had low end A/C work done that had cost me a compressor, more than once.

Go as pro as you can.

  • That shop is great though

  • I've had good service from wechillanycar

They come to you, have a proper machine and the skills. The company started out manufacturing air con for cars so some of the techs are really knowledgable.

  • I might be able to sell you a hardly used decent second hand one if you're interested? Would be cheap because one of our more cack handed drivers broke the mount. The camera itself works fine though, you'd just need to figure out how to mount it! Slide in to my DMs if interested.
