Anyone on here using EV subscription services, such as ON.TO?
My Alfa keeps asking for some attention every other month. The latest one is a power steering leak. I already replaced the top part of high pressure hose last year, now it's the other piece, that is at the back of the engine bay. About £400 to fix it and the part is not in stock til mid January. The power steering fluid will be dripping on the ground until then.

FYI there's a specific EV thread.

Why not go to a hydraulic place, such as pirtek and get them to repair/make you a new line?
-
• #69432
Good shout, didn't think about that. The only thing is that I would have to remove the hose to find out what I need or send it to repair and that would involve going under the car to disconnect the hose. I don't feel comfortable doing it on my drive.

The hydraulic places can usually do the work while you wait.

What’s an appropriate mileage/degree of warranty to start tuning a vehicle?

Spotted this nice OG G-Wagen at Exeter quayside yesterday. Particularly like the rear AND front-mounted spares

Analogue parking sensors ;)

If modifications will void warranty then wait until it is out of warranty would be my approach.
Engine swap for Addison? -
• #69440
Hah, much as I’d love to swap in the engine from the G400d I suspect that would be spendy.
I’m thinking of remapping it to get some more torque as the same engine is in the V250d- although I’m unclear whether the larger of the two turbo chargers needs to be swapped.
It cruises really well as-is, but its view of hard acceleration and mine are a little far apart.

Driving along the A38 in abysmal rain, I noticed after 30 mins of driving fine that revving in 6 or 7 seemed to judder.
Turned off at buckfast and went up a hill, had trouble automatically changing gear so changed gear manually and felt a bit more responsive but neared the top of the hill and the EPC light came on and another light that had a car with some skidding lines came on. Also the radiator light? All in orange.
I pulled over, waited for a while, then turned it round and coasted back down the hill to buckfast abbey where I parked. I opened the bonnet and it looks a bit wet in, including over some wires, but nothing obviously loose or low.
Went for a 10 min walk to calm nerves (buy a load of Bucky). Have just come back and tried to turn on. It sounds fine. No warning lights any more. I tried to rev and it revs fine (I think - only drove it a little way in a carpark so didn't get out of first).
Thoughts? Viable to drive back home or am I going to cause further catastrophic damage?

Made it all of half a mile and deja vu so have called AA. I hate cars.

Sorry- didn’t see this in time. I bet it’s a sensor (MAF would be my bet), replace with the correct OEM one and it’ll be fine.

Turns out some cables (HT number 3) had burned through after not being clipped in properly. One had gone through the heat shield and shorted. He tied it further away from the exhaust and wrapped the offending area in electrical tape. Car started and I managed to get back home without any more lights but it still felt underpowered and juddered a bit on hills even at 50-60. I'm hoping it's nothing more drastic than new cables or at worst a sensor as I could really do without a surprise multi-thousand pound bill at the moment. I've parked in front of my local garage and will give them a call. Or I could go to a Skoda dealership which isn't too far away (15 min drive instead of 5 min walk).

Replace the cables first. They will be the same as the VW/Audi/Seat with the same engine. Even with tape the resistance in the cables won't be right.

What's the forum approved site for checking write off/finance/stolen etc when buying 2nd hand? Free would be nice but in guessing that's not a thing.

Thanks - going to hopefully sort a set out tomorrow and see where that lands me. While I was waiting for the AA I read some horror stories on the skoda forums.

There are free sites but then there is no guarantee if it goes pear shaped.
Had a look there are freebie sites that do check if stolen and if written off. Might be worthwhile to find the location of all the VIN numbers on the shell and see if they match. Might be worth while to see if a cheap OBD reader can check that the electronic VIN match.
EDIT: isitnicked.com is free I think, totalcarcheck is £2.

Aftermarket and a decent make will be fine, see if a local motor factor is cheaper than dealer and halfrauds.
Nope, they rode the gsxr in. Matching leathers too.
