Too low. Looks shit and will probably handle like shit too

I'm not feeling get mondials to be honest, and whilst I appreciate the sheer effort that has gone into getting those cars to lay frame, I have to admit I'm with Oz on the practicality issue.
Although that said that height is for when they are parked, wonder what they handle like at their "normal" ride height?
I do like the 944 wheels on a Golf.

And if you want any help getting random wheels to fit drop me a PM as its kind of my passion, I have loads of contacts to custom make adapters, etc.
Here is my S3 on 2006 Range Rover HSE Sport wheels, just before I smashed it into a deer on a country lane!

Here's a challenge for you:
4 X 17" steel wheels in 5 X 108.
Must be 17" to clear my AP Racing 325mm brakes, need these to run winter tyres.

Get some space savers.
-
• #6932
I had thought of S60R space savers- nice and narrow as well.
However the Volvo dealer that I called to get a quote never got back to me.

I have 4 17" BMW steel wheels sat in my parents shed, so they are 5x120, no good to you without adapters.
I know a Renault of some form had 17" steels which were 5x108 but can't remember which model, I will investigate and update you.

^^ Get on the Volvo forums - T5D5 etc and see if any of them know of any cars being scrapped. Or look for cars breaking for spares on ebay. You've got plenty of time before you'll need the winter tyres
-
• #6935
Nah, all the spares that came with the 850 and X70 are too small to go over my brakes.
Theh S60R is too new and too rare to be being broken in sufficient numbers.
LowVag- you are correct, some Renault vans have the right BCD and size, if you would have a look that would be great.

Why steel? - you can fit winter tyres to alloys
-
• #6937
Yep, I am operating on the assumption that steel wheels will be cheaper, and because they will be narrower, the tyres will be both cheaper, and cut through the snow better.
My 215/45/17 Toyo T1-R's turned my car into a sled last year.

Renault Espace had 17" steels fitted apparantly in 5x108, looking around 2006ish models.
Its also worth considering new shape Focus. Aparantly they have 5 spoke spare wheels made from steel but rerplicate the alloys.
Try breakers yards but you may struggle to get a full set.

Those RR wheels are a triumph on the Audi.
Mondials are nice but look a bit like Landy wheels just banged on. On the Mk 5 they'd benefit for some gloss painting/colour coding on the flat inlay on the spokes and a mirror finish elsewhere.

interesting little clip on new dogbox's for street cars
Pfitzner Performance Gearbox - How to drive a dog box - YouTube
This is straight cut rather than dog leg right?

This is straight cut rather than dog leg right?
Straight cut is to do with the actual gears, dog leg is the position of the gears. Or do you mean dogs, dog gears?
-
• #6942
Dog-box=straight cut I thought?
Dog-leg is the shifter gate pattern.
-
• #6943
the salt will also ruin the alloys
The salt will also ruin the steel :P

• #6944
Steel is an alloy. ;oP

Yes. That's what I was referring to.
I've never heard a straight cut box referred to as a dog box. Only time I've heard dog used in conjunction with box is when referring to the shifting pattern, ie dog leg.
Muchas confused.

in the states and aus, called a dog-box (straight cut gears, usually without synchros)
"Sometimes a confusing thing is when people mention dogboxes when merely refering to a dogleg first type selctor pattern. An actual dogbox is referring to the type of engagemnt between the gear.
You can see the "dogs" on each of these gears, they are the small raised bits....castlated if you like. These engage into a number of cutouts on a counterpart. -

R32 on Bentley alloys? Never sir, will not fit!
Challenge accepted...

I love the sound of straight cut gears. All my old race bikes had straight cut primaries - whhAAApdingdingdingdingdingdingdingwhhhaaaAAPdingdingding....etc.
The whine from car gearboxes and cam gear drives is pretty cool too.
Jon, that golf needs crushing.
