In fact, if we are benchracing here, how about an LPT 20B?
Lightest of light weight engines, 300 bhp/300lb of torque.
Rip the engine and trans out of an RX-7.
Dale could crate it and post it.
that's been done. not sure if it was a 20b, but a friend of mine* that goes on mg fora has seen an american dude cause all sorts of uproar with the purists for putting a jap engine in a b.
+i'll ask him if he can find it :)

I'm pretty sure I've seen a few of those for sale in this country Neil!
@BRM I saw a lovely black MGBGT parked up in the Lido car park of Brockwell Park Wednesday morning. Went and had a look. Concourse frrom a distance, few bubbles up close, still stunning though. Miles Davis Kind of Blue album on the passenger seat. Some kinda cool cat driving that thing around.
Saw one of these the other day
Looked shit. -

Did we get the 13B-REW engine over here?
-
• #6856
13B-REW was what 3rd gens were sold with surely?
The 20B (which came in the RX7's) was not the same as the race 20B engine, but was basically the same as the 13B. I forget what the difference was but I remember something about fitments.
-
• #6857
Anyway. Not a proper engine eitherway. Moving parts?
-
• #6858
20B came in the Eunos Cosmo, never sold outside of Japan- the Kiwi's and convicts got them as second hand imports I think.
I don't know much at all about the Jap stuff- but thought that we got NA RX-7's as kosher imports, did we get the turbo varient also?
-
• #6859
if they have legal rights to scrap it- you can apply for a v5 using a v62.
then its yours.I think?
New red V5 points out that keeper is NOT the owner

Any engine within reason will fit to any gearbox just need an adaptor plate/bell housing made up. Its advisable to get a gearbox that will take the power and not just destroy itself. How much money and time is another.
Any engine will fit in to any body given enough time and a big enough hammer ;) remember the first lamborghini?
Then depends on how much money and how much modifying you wish to do, as proof.
SR i'd look at the landy tdi 250/300/td5 but look in to servicing if you wish to keep it as if you need to take the engine out to do a cambelt change and the water pump. Been there and got annoyed.

If i was never to go off road, I would much prefer this kind of pickup
They have really nice Hilux ones in Thailand, but can't find one on google.
-
• #6862
yeah, pretty much figured that out.
I meant like transmission etc... Is there a database I can search.I was thinking for the massive orange thing, if I buy, i'd want to put a more reliable lump in than it currently has. The 6.2 D apparently is a bit of an arse at times...
Thinking- put in a nice Landy engine (have a mate who's just built his own defender- incl chassis swap- so thought he might be able to help)
(reduce engine size, increase economy, increase towing ability- the last bit is important).Do not put in "nice" Landy engine, why do you think all the Landy folk put BMW engines in their cars? Assuming you don't have a burgeoning career as an Arabian oil baron in the works I'd go for a BMW 2.0-3.0l diesel engine. wono't cost an arm and a leg to run and they're great engines which will definitely fit in the orange.
Also because in the last ten years every Mondeo driving arsehole got a little bit of money and upgraded to a BMW there's loads of secondhand ones around for cheap money, easy to pick one up to scavange engine and gearbox from and then flog the remainder for spares.

Engineered To Slide's Drift Ute Hilux, not finished yet but it should be looking amazing!

The problem you get with a BMW engine in it is that it'll end up a bit shit for offroading but pretty good for motorways. Like the difference between a normal diesel and a commercial diesel

Oh yeah, only for road but if you're not going to go off road then there's no point pissing away fuel.

A V-Tec Frogeye Sprite would be intense.

The Rover 2.0 M or T series will fit right on to an MGB gearbox as it's got basically an O series block, which is basically a B series block. The turbo versions are 200bhp in stock trim, and they are very tuneable engines. I think some of the Morris Marina nutters are quite well versed in the conversion. They are also unburstable.
I reckon it would be cheaper than a V8, for more power, more easily obtained. Of course a turbo 4 is a very different motor, but it might be fun. -

Have driven a k series engine sprite. That was fun and a bit too over powered for such a nibble car.
How about a straight 6 jag engine say the 3.6 out of the MK1 e type and then it can be a thinking mans e type. ;)

but they don't.
Unless they want it for city life....anyway its all moot now as I've nowhere to keep it.

v8 power only, please. i would much rather go down the tried and tested route.
rover v8 - 200bhp (well over double the output of the pig iron four), vented front brakes, tele shocks front and back will be plenty. then i have a fast enough car that will sound mintox and can be upgraded in the future (coil-over front set-up, irs/5-link, etc).
