What did they use for the internals, Dinitrol?I'm thinking of getting mine done.

nah not really. the car belonged to my gf's mum for most of it's life and lived on the west coast of Scotland. the family mechanic up there at last MOT said it would need a hell of a lot of welding done to get it through the next one. my local wrench confirmed that when the alternator failure happened last week. 106,000 miles on the clock. engine could probably do a fair bit more.
the MOT covid extension helped us keep it parked on the drive. it has probably only done 60 miles in last six months. so it's not needed really. just a bit of a family heirloom. we will keep the private plates from it.
it is being picked up for scrap next tuesday.

Did you go to that place that Pistonheads featured a while ago with their S124?
Called them, earliest time they could look at the car was Feb 2021, and they wouldn't touch the subframe resto that was needed.

Re: Toyota, search for Toyota recall
They definitely do "free customer service and vehicle checks" my mum and dad bought a 2019 corolla and it's been back to the dealer 3 times for "not a recall" one was a potentially loose subframe bolt, one was a brake line issue and the other was a fuel pump issue. All voluntary by Toyota and not counted as officially a recall.

Which is ace. Not knocking them as a brand.
But that’s three quality issues on a brand renowned for “quality” vs a few stories of Tesla issues.
All I’m saying is that Tesla quality issues are over publicised vs other manufacturers.

Oh well. I was going to suggest asking for shipping on this
Admittedly I have no idea whether it is the right one for your car

I have! Or, rather, as they won't ship outside the US I got a friend in California to look at buying it then shipping it to me - we could not get a quote below £1,000 for the postage.

Hell yeah liking that. Never sure whether these things you put up are computer renderings or actual cars

vs a few stories of Tesla issues.
A few stories? ~40% of Tesla owners have to have their car repaired in the first three years of ownership due to something breaking! Compared to 13% for a Toyota.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for the help with buying a car - I ended up buying a little petrol Polo and I'm really happy with it. Maybe the convertible midlife crisis vehicle can wait until my 50th!

The reliability figures I am using are based on surverys and interviews with 14,000 Tesla, Toyota (and other brand) owners so would capture things not logged by Toyota.
I know two people who own Teslas who have had a series of serious faults with their cars but I don't point to that as evidence of anything becasue its anecdata and only a sample size of two.

Ha. Nice one dude. Didn't really get involved but had to resist advising you swerve the TT. horrible car to drive.
Polo is sound first car. Hope you have got a winner

Just thought about your responses some more. Your opinion is actually pretty useful. I.e maybe indicating that lots of people who buy Tesla don't believe that there is a quality problem with them. The older models at least. Apparently things have got a lot better.

The recall thing is a bit of a red herring (as alluded to earlier by SH). Toyota (especially Lexus) don't hesitate to recall vehicles where other brands would prevaricate (BMW are notorious for recalls in the US but not the EU).

I mean, I’m fully aware of quality issues like paint, panel gaps, trim fitment etc. It makes up nearly 50% of posts on uk forums for the Model 3.
I definitely don’t care about those problems unless they stop my ability to drive the car, especially as I’m only leasing this one for two years.
I honestly don’t see any many fault posts on M3 forums as I do on Velar forums for the current car, or even R1250 forums for my motorbike but maybe that’s outweighed by the fanaticism that seems to follow Tesla.
I guess I’ll find out next month. Can’t get rid of the Velar until Oct 16th or face a tax bill but it’s gone ASAP after that.

My RAV4 has will only take 46l of fuel against the 55l advertised.
I contacted Toyota UK who denied there was an issue ,despite hundreds of US owners complaining.
They referred me to a dealer who obviously had no idea what to do and contacted Toyota UK who said there was no known problem.
Over lockdown my fuel range wasn’t an issue. This thread has prompted me to google again and now Toyota US have admitted there is an issue and they will have a fix soon but it “doesn’t fall within the parameters of a recall”.Basically they aren’t admitting there is a fault until they have a fix.
