  • Used to live round the corner at the univerity halls of residence...

  • Just go slower so economy is better ;) Or keep the car at peak torque.

Was told the 1.6 was more tweakable, the reason the intercooler was added was partly as was concerned about inlet air temp in Italy and I had the intercooler doing nothing.

If I were to work on it now, I'd either go intercooler next to the radiator (like the pug 406?)or in the wing area infront of the tyre (like a Y10 turbo) or over the engine intercooler like the BX turbo diesel not infront of the radiator. Then I'd look at oil cooling too. But then it would be another project. Know the body work is still good as I used ensis fluid.

  • Yeah that does make sense. I'll ring the mechanic Monday morning and see if he can do the tracking/see what's up with the cooling fan instead of doing MOT

  • I just found a low mileage 6 speed 1M near me for a reasonable price.

    news flash.

  • @lynx just taken it out for another test run. Such a nice car to drive! Definitely glad we are persevering with it. Took our local big bad hill in its stride, only overheating slightly when a month ago it would have been off the scale. However I checked as soon as I got back and the lower rad pipe is cold whereas the top is hot hot. I'm confused as I thought coolant want thru bottom into rad then thru top. So how can top be hot if cold isn't? Is that a sign it is still blocked up?

  • Definitely flows top to bottom

  • So if that's the case a cold lower pipe shows rad is working fine. Cheers

  • Have you got a multimeter? May have asked before but am drunk.

  • Lol. Anything tasty?! Yeah, checked the thermoswitch for continuity and it's fine. What else you thinking

  • Pick up the DS tomorrow...
Face mask at the ready for the train journey and hopefully getting picked up by a friend in either an e type or alvis....
    Pictures to follow!

  • Disconnect wires on the thermo switch and test resistance when car is cold and resistance when warm. Cold should be high to the point of no continuity, warm should have low resistance and continuity.

Think my sort of Father in Law is a bit alcoholic, only he and I drank last night and tonight. He has gout, and I know why...I'm still on the coffee at midday, he will have a Ricard or two.

  • Can't imagine how excited you must be. Please feel free to spam this thread with all manner of wafty content, I won't mind.

  • I can do that. I presume fan takes awhile to come on if the radiator is doing a good job of cooling the coolant without it? Thinking about it that might be why it hasn't come on yet. I'll drive it a longer distance tomorrow and check it then.

  • Yeah, happy new DS day.

Shall I get some LHM for you ;)

Oh and hope for the Alvis, suspect that I'm still not welcome owners club meetings for bringing Alvis in to disrepute. But that may have been to my reaction to the chairman not being very friendly to me when we met.

  • Trying to figure out why the car is getting up to temp and getting higher. To see if it is the switch.

  • It is not spam nor never will be considered spam, it is a Citroen DS!!!!!!. If you don't like a DS or admire or respect the technology in the car is this thread for you?

    You plural, not you Jambon.

  • Subaru sequential box on a Porsche engine? Could work. That's a long way out of the comfort zone of a standard Scooby box though.

  • Aren't they supposed to be pretty much bombproof?

  • The sti 6 speeds are stronger. In the WRX it just means diffs or driveshafts go before the gearbox does.

@Dammit so some sort of custom adaptor plate between engine and box and good to go?

  • Not in my experience with a WRX.

  • The five speed boxes are meant to be very weak, the six speeds are meant to be much stronger. One thing to note is that turbo charged cars are really tough on transmissions due to the huge and often sudden torque- this is not a feature that our engines are going to have.

  • modified Subaru sequential box on a Porsche engine

Fixed that. I'm sure flipping the pinion upside the crown (no idea what I am talking about) will be simples.

  • It may all be a very silly idea, I’m just looking for options at the moment.

  • I assume that you saw the recent MCM STi 6 speed swap? IIRC they mentioned a Porsche design link to that transmission.
