  • Anyway, unimog

  • One of these in desert sand colour just down the road. Very cool actually, pure utility

  • hehe. classic car thread. wait for someone to post the landy on tracks...

  • I think these look ace too, just VB in their natural state like this, but they do just look like any vintage Japanese 4*4 right?

  • We’re getting a jimny next year when we move to Scotland. Seems like a no brainier for day to day rural living up there(not gonna be going bunny lamping or green laning anyway).
They are indeed very small inside but no kids or dogs means we’ll be fine.

Having worked with defenders on and off my entire adult life you couldn’t pay me to drive one even if you included a full time mechanic and guy to treat the rust..

  • Problem with Landys is that they’re just a bit too “real ale and racism”.

Now I admit I have a beard, but I don’t wear fishing waders to the pub and tell everyone about green-lane access (with frustrated dogging attempts a clear unspoken sub-text)

  • Eg

  • I would also like something that won’t dissolve in light rain and won’t break down all the time.

  • pretty sure they come off the peg with road tyres so... unlikely.

  • I think the fact they all look similar and super reliable is the big draw.

  • That's also fine, a bit OTT but I wouldn't kick it out of bed... The Jimny looks so fun, especially for the kind of driving I do, just tooling about here and there... Being able to take it out on the beach would be a massive plus and I really hate that Aussie massive 4X4 Ranger/Hi Lux thing...

  • anyway. get a landcruiser.

  • After the classic Troopy this is my fave ever Land Cruiser shape, beautiful...

  • Mate, the vast majority of 4x4s get sold with road based tyres. Doesn't really matter, no one's actually going off road. Eg. diving watches.

  • As @TRA says they're widely considered better off road than a Defender. But yeah towing not so much.

  • My Octavia is on gumtree and now reduced quite a bit and I’d consider offers

    😂

  • pretty sure a jimny doesn't have nearly the same clearance as a defender, so again, unlikely.

  • Don't you all live in central London?

  • As your reply suggests it's not really that simple, the Jimny gets beached because of the clearance but the Defender has downsides too. I think the point is a Defender isn't necessarily better off road. Pretty objective video here:

But yeah, have you really been far even as decided to use yours off road?

  • To be be fair my friend's got a Defender and it uses it off road a lot. Plenty of byways, green lanes etc. around London.

  • hmmm.

  • I would like one exactly like this please. Actually in black and white.

  • Well when it does get beached you need to get it out somehow.

So I think the conclusion is that @Dammit needs a pimped up Jimny and a Defender to tow it out with.
