Swapped the 12” lipstick Mountney for a 15” three-spoke. Drives sooo much better, like not pumping iron! 17” is standard but it does encroach on knee and elbow room from memory.
Broke my off-roading cherry too. Straight through our fucking garden pond. Yesss.

I’m near Hertford, Herts. Not sure if that’s any good for you guys? I’d love to but be warned i’m a total novice, cautious Dad. Ain’t got a winch neither but I s’pose if someone else has its probably okay.

If I wanted to lease a people carrier type thing for a couple of years, which make / model and who from?
Need something big enough for bikes, baby, us two and stuff. Would drive to the alps.

the little green car doesn't need an MOT being over 40 years old but for piece of mind I like to have it done. Tester initially failed it this week because of the indicator lights basically not being orange. But my guy persuaded him to reconsider and they passed it. Strange cos the same test centre passed it last year but apparently it can just come down to the mood of the individual tester at the time.
advisory on rear wheel bearings so getting that sorted this week.
anyway, clocked around 200o miles or kilometres, who knows, since last year. all of them fun

Do you need a people carrier? Big estate should be able to handle all that, and be nicer to drive.
-
• #48213
It might be a budget thing as well.
Other that the Superb and Passat I'm struggling to think of many at the cheaper end with a boot big enough for bikes and luggage.
-
• #48214
Yup, unless you have a need for more than 5 seats then get an estate. People carriers are horrid things, worse mpg, horrid handling and just ugly as sin.
-
• #48215
Yeah I basically need a presentable van.
Which is the least shit?

E55 AMG

Ford S-Max meant to drive nicer than e.g. a Galaxy. Will also do 7 seats, should you ever need it. My dad had one for a few years and got on well with it.

Yeah mate that's ideal, the 3 of us that go are based in NW and NE london and we usually roll into Herts for some laning. Tykeswater is a fun spot to have a go in, will probably be back there in the next couple of weeks.

Horn
on the light / indicator / screenwash stalk. still is, to this day.
Not mine! It’s on a random button, but you have to have enabled a rocker switch powering the horn, fuel and temp gauges. And then turn it off again, as it’s independent of the ignition, so you don’t drain the battery.

Day 3 was co- driver day, and very cold, with the most down to earth guy I’ve ever met.
Turns out he’s Pastrana’s co-driver, as well as doing the electrics for formula E.

Really interesting, really challenging.Day 4- hours of Peugeot and Impreza fun.
I’m hooked, have approached a rally prep service to sort the mini, but for meantime looking st arrive and drive a season or two in rallycross.
