If it's out of warranty, plan for a significant emergency fund. I toyed with the idea of buying a 550i for a while last year - you can find nice ones for mid-20s with 30k or so on. Look good, comfy, fast as.
Service costs and consumables are extravagant and that's not even considering the potential big bills if the engine / transmission / electrics shit the bed for some reason. Scared me right off.

I'm loving punting around in my C55, but it's been an expensive year.
I'll dig the invoices out, but I suspect I'm at £6-7,000 maintenance on a £12,000 car at this point, and there's a couple of grand identified and scheduled for next year.

What a beauty.
Love the bonnet/headlights shape on those. -

Very cool

I know, so cool... And the two tone is what I've been after. I'm in the process of convincing my wife that a post Christmas trip to Melbourne and a long drive back is a great idea. Buying a 34 year old car and driving it 1000 Kay's in the middle of summer... What could possibly go wrong?

Just got an insurance quote, $156 per annum for third party... Amazing...
-
• #45484
Wow, that's very good. Do you need any other insurance or just Rego costs? Queensland is so much cheaper than NSW...
-
• #45485
That's it! Insurance ($156), rego ($410) and roadside assistance (RACQ Plus Care is $165)... So cheap, less than $1000 on the road, amazing...
BTW Rego isn't due 'til Feb...

lDGAF!!!

Well I was thinking if it's only 3 years old, the chance of big bills will be lower, but also extended warranty is probably a necessity

Get a Kia with a 7 year warranty.

Investment as it won't go down in value, if looked after.

After scouring for well, literally years, for a polo competition gearbox I eventually found one a few years ago, the only downside was it had a forest CWP in it and was geared for 106mph on 15” wheels.
A couple of days ago I managed to find a 3.6 crown wheel which should give me 117mph at 7500rpm. I still need a pinion to match but worst comes to worst I’ll have to have one made to match this CWP

Running super late on our trip, my car is running mint but Marek’s seems to have lost compression so he’s got a local old boy looking at it. We went for a hoon around some estates last night trying to find the smallest gaps we could fit through. I also discovered just how underbuilt these things are.

Can't help myself, really want this. Have spoken to owner... It's a little on the pricey side but hard to find these in good condition now
