  • Thank you Italy, you wonderful bunch of loons. After my lottery win, I would buy a house on Como just to have a good excuse to own one of those. Bellissima, indeedy.

  • I think there's another thread for ostentatious virtue-signalling but I could be wrong. It might be in the passive aggressive thread.

  • My sentence may have been a bit clumsy but the sentiment remains. Nothing wrong with being concerned about safety.

  • spotted parked up near Baker St today

  • MOT passed so that's a relief, although 2 advisories... One washer jet, which will be an excuse to upgrade both and a small hole (surprise surprise) near the offside sill which will be sorted next week for £60-80 apparently, although we'll see eh.

  • Love this build.

Don't suppose you have a blog or build thread any where?

In other news I came across this:

    https://youtu.be/E4-8LgXjQbc

Wasn't sure whether to post it here or in the Brexit thread ;)

  • Perks of going to remote sweden for work, shiny new Volvo hire car.

  • Just whizzed through this, brilliant progress. Love the reverse engineered backplate for the PiperX filter, and also the recent project Binky-esque turn what with the cardboard templates and fabricating.

  • Insurance company in cheeky cunts shocker - got renewal notice for £700, rang them up to change details as I've moved house and job and they requoted at £800. Seemed high so I ran it through an online comparison (exact same details) and got £400 from the same insurer. Rang them back 'oh that's fine, I'll price match it to the online quote'. WTF!

  • I get to reinsure both my vehicles in august, which is going to sting a little I suspect.

  • Are you still tracking £/mile driven on the Porsche?

  • I never was tracking cost per mile, but I do have a (painfully accurate) total spend spreadsheet which excludes stuff like petrol and insurance. I’ll update it (and this thread) when I get the car back from the bodyshop- hopefully this month.

  • I have to fit a new catalytic converter to my 306. 2 litre and a massive 130bhp. The old cat has done 255,000 kilometers.

An OEM cat is $800, a universal cut and weld is about $400 fitted. Or I can get a high flow magnaflow from eBay for $130 and my mechanic can weld it in for another $100.

I should go with the magnaflow right? Surely it'd be a better quality than any old universal cat?

  • Will have to watch that later. Love a 205, was even looking at a Si as a potential project. Bit different to the GTi everyone is after.

  • So my dad and a couple of mates did their first classic trial last weekend as a prelude to the one we're doing a week on Sunday. My dad realised they might be out of their depth when he parked the 3 Series Compact for scrutineering and a guy came running over saying "Sorry lads, you can't park there, this is for the competitors..."

Needless to say, they struggled but had a laugh. We're now making plans to make some mods to the car once I arrive. First plan is to give it some more ground clearance.

  • Misses brick killed a spring in a massive pothole a few days back. No biggie, just a spring right!
    Wrong
Shock is blown on compression stroke as well, then the drop links are seized (work fine and no play but had to chop thrm out), as are the bolts to dettach the ball joint from the lower arm and the tie rod end nut. Evry single one seized or sheared off once the impact gun had a go.
Only a 2009 car as well. If spring hadn't burst would habe been several mote years until any of this had to be replaced.
Such annoy, should have bought a land cruisers, can't have nice things etc.

  • Im in lulea sweden that could also be mistaken as a city wide volvo museum

  • Yes, get the magnaflow. Or smash the inside of the old cat out and reattach. ;)

  • I've ordered all new billet accessory brackets, pulleys and a new starter motor. Hopefully should be everything I need to finally get my car running again. Please cross all fingers or prepare for another major fail update in a week or so....
