  • 3.9 gets my vote too.

If you're going to cap the rev limit to 7500rpm then you'll be better off with the stroker.

  • If we go Syvecs then we can run the engine on the engine dyno, if we don't it's a rolling road, so it's pretty much a question that's answered itself I suppose.

  • Syvecs worth the price of admission if you get to bench test the engine. Just for the cool factor alone.

  • Does it matter where you dyno it?

Is there something wrong with the engine management that Porsche designed? Sounds like you just want to change it for the sake of changing it.

Also 3.9. Fat torque curves are nice.

  • The Porsche engine management is a) 20 years old, and both software and hardware have moved on in that time, b) it'll be expecting to manage an engine that has changed dramatically, potentially with an increase in power that is significant and c) yes, there is a significant difference in ability to map an engine accurately rolling road vs engine dyno

  • Standard engine management won't work with ITBs if you're going down that route, unless you build an airbox to work with all 6 trumpets, and put a MAF sensor on that, assuming the standard management uses a MAF sensor.

  • Also, unless there's a tool available to access the standard management and tune the engine for these big mods such as stroker, heads, and cams, then you're going to have to go standalone.

  • Modern cars with 'Intelligent Battery Sensors' will shut down non essential consumers to preserve enough battery life to start the car, BMW's will even put things like heater fans and heated rear windows at half efficiency to allow more charge to go to the battery when it is running.

  • Ordered the most recommended high spec battery from tayna batteries yesterday. By far the cheapest supplier. Was at my local sainsburys for pickup by lunchtime today.

And I just put a sock filled with cat litter in the MX-5 to stave off unwanted moisture... Maybe modern cars are better.

  • :D :D Heh if it works it's all good :D

  • Damn, this'll explain why my car is still damp. I put a cat full of socks and litter in mine, and all it did was make noise and smell bad.

  • If a 2004 Panda counts as modern, that might explain why only the middle strip of my rear window demists. But that is unlikely, I reckon finding a Fiat breaker will be in my near future.

Battery will be fitted on Sat, if it doesn't rain.

  • None of this stuff covered by the dealer?

  • Yeah I’m confused - How is this not costing you at least a couple of grand? Did you not get a specialist to design a custom battery for you?

  • He’s not got to the weight reduction phase yet

  • Highly unlikely, all of the similar experiences I've read point to the dealers not giving a fuck about the battery unless the car won't start. I weighed it up and thought a new/better battery is probably not a bad idea anyway at relatively little expense versus driving back to Epsom, leaving it with them for a week only for a 50% chance of them doing fuck all about it.

  • The spare tire has fuck all air in it, if that counts as weight reduction?

  • This is me, 6 hours and 12 minutes before I need to wake up to a glorious new day, having doubts about choices I've made in life.

I can't complain too much though, at least I had a piece of cardboard to lie on and a light.

  • What were you fixing?

  • We’ve all been there.

Gave up on a track day when 3 hours before I needed to leave I was still up chasing a brake fluid leak.

  • Fill it with helium.

  • only the middle strip of my rear window demists

Masking tape and some conductive paint might solve this. Can you see where the paint has rubbed off on the other strips? If one of them is working then the electrons are moving about somewhere at least.

  • I am pretty sure it's duff contacts or damaged strips as you say. I just haven't gotten round to inspecting. It's just funny that it is exactly a third of the window across the middle that works. I will take a closer look tomorrow when I'm fucking around with the battery.

  • The car said "Time for service", I thought it was a bit late but who am I to argue.

Actually just regular maintenance I couldn't postpone any more before taking the car to Lapland tonight.

Edit: All this brings to mind one specific winter tyre installation a few years ago.
