Range Rover V8s, of whatever flavour, are basically the ultimate towing vehicle. Mind you, my Impreza WRX did a damn fine job. There were a couple of times I was pressing on at a fair rate of knots, and wondered what stupid git was tailgating me, only to realise/remember it was the racer I could see in my rear view mirror.

Think some of the Mitsubishi 4x4, jeep cherokee and a few others that can tow the 3.5kg limits.

Landcruiser I’d have trouble getting a RR past the boss.

The E39 is pretty boss at towing. I was doing a good job of keeping up with a spirited MX5 in the twisties until @cake reminded me that we had a trailer on the back.
Also I think you’d look hench in an E Class. You’re a bit older than me so you might have the higher overall towing weight as standard when you passed your test, I can’t remember the cutoff date, but I think my overall towing weight can’t be >3.5t which is hard with car, trailer, and towing vehicle. Something like a RR or Land Cruiser makes that impossible for me.

Landcruisers are the mutts. They're more expensive than RR's here (secondhand at least.) Probably something to do with the relative service costs. My buddy had 400k miles on his LC. Still ran great until someone nicked it!
Wouldn't mind one of those odd FJ Cruisers for off road camping myself.

I like the 80 series cruisers. Did they get sold in the UK?
-
• #39440
I'd be surprised if they'd not rusted away if they were.
-
• #39441
True, constantly forget about the ravages of rust in the UK. There's a billion of them still driving around down here. Infact there's nearly every generation of landcruiser still around.

Magic. Make sure they are adjusted.

• #39443
Very much this, they're fucking everywhere!?!

Ah no idea how much tickets cost as I get the joy of a freebie ;)

That be it. Many flavours of engines though. The popular option now is highly tunes diesels that sound like trucks but go like stink. I do like the v8s tho.

7 on ebay, mix of engines - the diesel will be hammered in London though as I imagine it falls into the "filthy" category.
I reckon BRM should go for the Landrover option, in order to fit in on his country estate.

I have noticed an increase of jacked up tritons and Ford rangers though. It's like the nouveau bogan vehicle of choice. In Sydney anyway, same up north?

Re-watching Breaking Bad and a bit of googling has made me wonder how they even found a mid-80s Toyota Tercel 4x4 wagon to use in the show... Maybe they're all been hoarded since the show was made.
Yeah braked trailers are not without their disadvantages. Like having to reverse up a comedy steep alley blocked by a dump truck whilst towing a megaload of machine tools.
I'd opt for something heavy, with exceptional brakes and a lot of grunt.
Range?
