  • Not according to JD Power
    http://www.jdpower.com/press-releases/2017-uk-vehicle-dependability-study

Japanese quality appears to be slipping fast, and German is no indicator of quality. BMW are bottom of the table with 198 problems per 100 cars, and Audi don't fare much better.

According to that, buy a Kia, Skoda or Volvo.

  • I've got a 3008, although petrol turbo, the same engine from the Cooper S as I insist on telling people. I like it a lot, even the looks and it drives very well as well as being very comfortable. All kinds of good stuff like pano roof and tailgate seat. Interior very pleasant. Has had a few issues, but most have been engine related and are common to the Mini. Did have central display unit give up which would have been £500 odd, fixed under warranty. Having said I like it, I'm a sucker for French cars, I really wanted a Cactus but the family declined. Now half heartedly looking at the C3 Aircross although the new 3008 is very handsome.

  • Maybe it's a hovercraft...

  • The problem with the JD power survey is that it included "perception" issues i.e. nav controls being hard to use. In the sector of issues per vehicle Peugeot do very well and the other Frenchies are just below average.
What it does show is that you need cars with long warranty and cheap fixing... This is why Kia scores well. Certainly suzuki doing well is no surprise. Despite appearances they are engineered better than most.

  • Timing chain and tensioner issues? Gunged up intakes? The good old prince engine.

I have a 306 with 310,000 kilometers on it and it's flawless (mechanically)

  • No, but I'm aware of those, maybe just a matter of time! Turbo coolant pump failure, ECU issues.

  • Could have been worse, for Chinese domestic market it would have probably been called "dodge winging ace"

Weird in the states they have lots of petrol vans, even those euro van have some kind of petrol engine in, vs over here I think you can only get diesel

  • I read this as Doge Winging Ace

  • i need to replace the step bars on LeBrover... am i missing something or are the OEM ones on this page far cheaper and a better option (2 year warranty) than the OG ones also listed?

  • ASX is fine. Bit agricultural, but does everything we wanted it to well. Not auto tho. Loads of space in a fairly compact body.

Was substantially better value than all the other options we looked at for the same price (£10k) which is why we went for it. I liked the Yeti, but we would have had to spend an extra £5k or so to get one with a similar spec and comparable low mileage.

They are all more or less the same TBH. Let’s face it, this type of car isn’t exactly ground breaking or exhilarating to drive. I’d just say test drive all the ones you’re interested in, and go for whichever you like the best for your own reasons, whatever they are.

I think that’s all I’ll get away with saying without being shouted at for droaning on about an affordable and practical car that doesn’t go 175mph and cost £5k a year to maintain and make 95% of the population think you are a total cunt.

  • 4x4 not in (near) a field = total cunt.

  • Except Defenders, which are always cool.

    And the Porsche 959.

    But otherwise yeh.

G Wagens were also cool until they got adopted as a car for LdnWnkrz a few years ago.

  • My GF is a midwife and travels around rural areas of Somerset for home births at all hours of the day/night 365 days a year, in all manner of weather. Light flooding and waterlogged lanes in winter is the main issue she has to deal with, although she did have some issues with ice and snow last winter.

Babies don’t wait to come out until it’s nice and sunny and the road to the farmhouse in the middle of nowhere is clear.

I ride my bike to work. I did drive the ASX to London once though, and it was actually a lot nicer to drive around the city than our old mini was.

But obviously we totally should have bought a 10 year old RS6 with 180k on the clock tho, cos that would have been like, way, more practical.

  • Ive been off road in my(...) mgb.

  • We're not debating the practicality though :p

  • Ive been off road in my(...) mgb.

In my experience the MGB spends a lot of time off the road...

  • BTW, it broke again. The zipper "handle" on the un-doable rear window panel snapped.

  • I've got a top spec Yeti. And my wife's a midwife.

It's in the stars man. It's in the fucking stars.

  • Anyone have experience with skoda Octavia RS? I'm looking at a 2016 162tsi RS. I don't really want another VAG car but the skoda is meant to be good and way less issues than VW and Audi. It also comes in a real manual.
Basically looking to replace the A3 with something slightly larger and nicer to drive. Practical for the occasional bike in the back and safe for the kids in the back.
Other cars I've tested are a Renault Megane GT and a Peugeot 308... Both of those we're ok, but ultimately bland. The Renault did feel better on road than the pug. I even tested a new Astra because of the 7 year warranty offer. Felt doughy and cheap though. Nothing worse than acres of piano black plastic...

  • Fuck you! You watch your fucking mouth! I love that car.

  • Well played though

  • Slate and 911 Safari.

Edit: How do I get that to embed? Thanks.
