I’m being a tit, cos I can’t actually remember.

The standard finish wasn’t lacquered and I’m pretty sure the body coloured ones in a Jade Green 993 I had were factory and matt.
But a Vesuvius 993 I had we’re lacquered.

Ask on that 911 forum before you get the gun out.

It was a factory option in the 996 (along with the centre tunnel), looking at pictures they don't appear matt, but I'll check.
I want them to be "correct".
The car is booked in for January- new roof, all corrosion treated, seat backs, tunnel, boot release levers, all dents gone.

Always best to check or some dickhead will be sure to point it out after you’ve done it.
I have a winter roof repair to do too.
This was a teeny-tiny chip, but water got behind it. :(

That's annoying. I have the start of some worming under the paint on the roof struts, so they'll all be sanded back and painted matt black whilst the old roof is off.
I almost bought a soft window Targa 912 when I was in California, then ran out of time to organise things.

I like a targa. Except the 993-997s.
And they drive all floppy. But who cares.
A soft window would have been a lovely little money pit.

Floppy is relative- the guys at CG said that if you open the door of a 964 Coupe when it's on the lift you can't close it again until the car goes back on its wheels.
I still like the idea of a 912.

Right- what trolley jack?

and yet Porsche went on about it being eleventy billion percent more stiff than the 3.2.
This is precisely what Public Enemy were telling us was going on.

Arcan from Costco was the standard choice a few years back.
-
• #37838
So the next question is do I know anyone local with a Costco card?
-
• #37839
Actually it's only 5% extra if you don't have one. Shame you can't check stock online.
-
• #37840
Costco won't let me join, somewhat frustratingly.
-
• #37841
And your roof lining is where it should be! Madness!
Neil, we’ve got a dark blue (midnight sparkle?) ‘94 35k miler slowly rotting down in Dorset if you want another money pit...
(and two more, one LPG, similarly or more rotted :/ ) -

MOT'able?

996 was stated as being 45% stiffer than the 993, 991 is probably stiffer than a Viagra test subject.

Probably. 2 of 3 were running while we were still pulling boats around, circa 10 years back. Sea air’s not kind to the bits that aren’t aloominum though ;) I’m down there on weds, will poke around.

Not a 996 I know, but not lacquered.

Yeah.
I saw that one too.
I'd be very surprised if they shouldn't be lacquered, but there are enough about to make me slightly uncertain. Enough to make it worth asking the 911UK lot.

I have put the question to them, immediate response was from a chap who owned the red GT3 pictured above - he said lacquered.
I'm happy enough that lacquered is the right answer, it'll also be a lot tougher - and the main reason I'm colour coding is to cover up the scratches in the hard backs. Plus I think it looks nice.

Cheers. I should probably just make a list of cars I saw when growing up in the 90's, and wanted thereafter.
Sure?
Have you looked at any OG factory ones?
