  • The Volvo has been to see it's beautician again:

  • "How good are you at cleaning cars?"

"I have carpet in my garage."

    "Fair enough!"

  • I do worry about you, Neil...

  • Being this good looking is a burden, I'm glad that you recognise this Joe, and that you're there for me.

  • Ha... As long as you're happy, mate...

  • With all this unleased powah, will there be any brake work? Braided lines, uprated pads etc.

  • Considering it, the brakes are very good already, but there's an upgrade path to 6 piston fronts with 4 piston rears- by (pretty much) putting Cayenne turbo callipers on the front and the existing fronts on the rear.

We'll see- it would make for a pleasingly holistic package of upgrades.

  • @cake any thoughts re: Golf?

  • Is there any danger of ruining the immediacy of it with all this work? Does it add much weight?

  • I dropped 20kg with the new suspension, I don't think we'll make that back with the engine - it will have a new, third radiator in the nose and a larger oil scavenge pump but that's not going to add up to a great deal I don't think.

  • Sorry. I meant to get back to you. I think the missus should buy it but she thinks it's a bit too rich. Sorry.

  • I do wonder, if you have the money to do this, why you don't just sell it and buy something faster, but I enjoy reading these updates, and as a former Porsche owner I'm kind of curious to see how it turns out. (I never thought the engine was the Boxster's problem though, more the rest of the car.)

When I owned an SD1 I wondered what kind of performance for the money you could get by putting a Rover 800 turbo engine in an SD1 2000, rather than going down the obvious (and increasingly expensive) V8 route that everyone tells you to do.
And if you did want to put a V8 in it, there's that JLR 5 litre supercharged one that's sort of in the family.

  • this is now a "your wheelz appearing on banknotes" thread.

  • Not sure about having two RS7 variants, think the halo models should be singular, heroic

To an extent, because anyone can buy something faster - I enjoy making something.

  • sell it and buy something faster

Well once you break down the £/hrs used, you could prob rent something properly silly somewhere it can be driven to it's limit.

Then just use a cheaper vehicle for your main transport. A bicycle perhaps?

  • You're taking what you want and stating that that is what I should want.

    I've got what I want.

  • I think it's perfectly logical to want a project. Plus you're likely to get more out of the engineers involved if it's interesting to them too.

  • leave him be. if it wasn't the car it'd be hookers and blow. you know what he's like.

  • In ginger wardrobe news I fear my head gasket was cooked whilst running hot after the hoses split. Off with his head!

  • Ok, shame. Was only asking as I'm probably going to have to renew insurance this week, and hoped for an easier solution.
    Its a fucking great car.

I gave this some thought whilst doing some laps of Regents Park this evening.

The car I've always wanted (well, the 911 I've always wanted) is the 996.1 GT3, but: if there had been an option back in the day for a GT3 touring I'd have taken that over the aero-kit which came as standard, and I'd also have picked a cab over a coupe because they're fun.

So - given that I want a 996 GT3 touring, cabriolet, and that was never offered by Porsche (quite possibly for extremely good reasons) I'm making one.

  • In other words, this is costing as much as a 996 GT3.
