MkV GTi? The DSG is excellent. I am converted, def. I would go as far as saying I would not get a manual again

7spd DSG is immense. Barely feel the gear changes, super quick even under full throttle, and if you're that way inclined you get that DSG fart on upshift if the sporty car of choice has a Sport mode (as opposed to sport shifting which the normal cars have). The 7th gear comes in handy on the motorway, 2,000 RPM is barely ticking over but I think it's about 80-85mph on the Audis.

Likewise the ZF 8 speed box in recent BMWs and various others is amazing. Wouldn't go back to manual.

I haven't driven Porsche's 7spd PDK but if it's as good as the journos are gushing, it must be incredible.

Then by that theory we can buy a muscle car from the 60's and still save the planet. Awesome!

I think the point being that the emission calculation is based on exhaust fumes alone, rather than the emissions from producing a whole new car. If you take that into account keeping an old banger on the road wins the argument

If you've got a spare £35k that'd make an absolutely stonking car

I had an E39 M5 for a couple of years, best car I have ever owner (to date). Was not cheap to run but was amazing to drive. The only car that my wife still talks about, best mpg we ever managed was 26/27 on a run up to Scotland. Around town would regularly see <15mpg... outside of the normal servicing & tyres the only issue i had was with the vapor seals around the rear doors.
In a downpour the water would run into the car because of the failed seal and the footwells would fill up.

I think this thread (mainly Dammit's bills) has numbed me to the point where when I read on other forums about a service bill costing £800, I just think 'meh'.

That's not an honour I wanted!

If anyone fancied posting the link to my Volvo advert in the PH thread on the 850R that would be appreciated.

I've had this in real life! Shortly after Dammit's scary bills started appearing, I had a rather 'aggressive' service result and felt at least some degree of relief that it could have been worse :)

Weren't you banned from pistonheads forum?
Just wondering. Anyone here drive an automatic sporty sedan such as S3 etc... Would it convert a stubborn manual transmission fan?
