You'd also need to find some way of dealing with the high levels of sulphur in gear oils. Apart from making your vehicle smell disgusting when it's running, the exhaust gases are also going to rot out the exhaust system in double-quick time with those sort of levels of SO2 passing through it.

I'll probably just leave it and take it to be disposed with properly.
Since my indicators are fixed thanks to electrical wizard and all round awesome bloke @Fixedwheelnut I've got the dashboard back in again and since then I've also ripped the carpet out of the footwells and ordered some shiny insulation foam to install and then some rubber floor mats that should hold up better than the last ones and be a little more pleasent inside now that I can close the windows and have hooked up the 'heating'.
This weeks jobs include hopefully replacing the head gasket and alternator on Tuesday and Wednesday in time for a spot of greenlaning on Thursday which should be pretty exiting. Very pleased with how it's going to be honest.

Defender update:
today the heater stopped working, windscreen wipers stopped working, instrument panel stopped working, weird noise from fuse box, key snapped in door and then the battery completely died and I left the car a few miles from home and rode the bike I luckily had in the back the rest of the way.so mañana...

Check the contacts on those fuses we cleaned up in the fuse box where the main feeds come through, all though it might just be they packed up as the voltage was dropping before the battery died.

I'd really like to get into working on cars again. Many moon's ago, when I was a slightly inept teenager; I managed to foolishly blow up the engine in my Dad's Beetle; and as a penance I was the one who had to learn how to replace it (with help from my Dad's friend).
I really really enjoyed it and would love to get back to tinkering with cars again, however I lack the tools, the premises and to be totally frank - a lot of the knowledge.
I've been considering going to evening classes to learn some skill's involved - but I haven't found one that really suits me (most are diploma's or apprenticeships in Motor Engineering, I just want to get hands dirty and learn something practical!).
I know of places such as Pit Start which offer a self service option when working on your own car, but that's not quite what I have in mind... I learn't to repair and tinker with my bikes by assisting friends who were more experienced than myself, in the evening, over a few beers in a nice warm workshop.
Unfortunately - none of my friends are really into cars, so without wanting to sound too much like a lonely heart's advert - I'm looking for people who are. Who like to tinker with them, and would be interested in letting me help them!
This (I know, it's a bike forum!) is probably not the place to ask - but it's the only forum I'm a member of - so I thought I'd start here.

Are you sure you didn't receive a perfectualy legitimate looking email from customerservice@heathrowparking.com saying they admitted fault and would pay out in full?

I'm not so sure how immaculate I'd be at that just yet! But perhaps - if you wanted someone to help!
You'll need to break down the longer hydrocarbons to match what's in normal diesel, otherwise they'll sludge up your fuel system and burn badly covering everything within 50m with soot.
