Yep, I faced the same kind of problem. As I have to park on a public road in SW2 I couldn't even get a quote :(

Tell you what I've always wanted, a 944, my mate used to race them, are they wallet shedders or cheap tatty fun?

There's a couple of brokers on PH that are recommended for Porsches that I'd investigate. I can't remember the names but others will I imagine.
They're the sort that ask you what experience you've got, so don't undersell the Volvo!

I called Adrian Flux, chap asked if I had any experience of driving powerful cars, I mentioned that the Volvo had more power than the Porsche did, that seemed to tick that box for him.

987s handle better though. I did an A-B-A-B back-to-back drive with a Cayman S and a 997 Carrera S over a 2 hour period, and I thought the 987 handled better than the 997. YMMV though, it was a fairly subjective thing as both were bloody good. In the spirit of full disclosure, I should point out the salesman never let me turn the PSM off so there was no tail-out action.

Love it. On a cycling forum discussing the finer points of Porsche engineering. :o)

If I rent a garage to put it in then I can put it on a classic policy, apparently.

Advertising was so much better in the 80's

Even if its your only car?

A 911 and a KLEIN in one pic, hnnnnnnnngggg

I'd have to keep the Volvo to accomplish the classic insurance thing for the Porsche.
-
• #29364
Ah, well if you can afford to do it then go for it and definitely garage the way to go.
-

Same. Always thought it would be fun to own a 944 or even a 924. I think they can be had as cheap tatty fun but nice 944's are rising in price, a knock on effect of all other porsches raising in value.

Adrian Flux just emailed me a revised quote, if the car is garaged then it's £860 fully comp.
That's quite reasonable - just over twice what the Volvo costs, and by keeping the Volvo (which has business miles on it's insurance) I qualify for my firms car payment allowance.

basically a free car

I'd be crazy not to, really.

I am open to other suggestions for what my £6,000 car allowance should go on, btw.
£14,000 from HSBC at 3.3% costs £253/month, so £3,036/year.
Call it £4,000 with insurance, that's £2,000 to spend on servicing, leaving me to find money for tyres and petrol.

I did wonder whether the 'lesser' Porkers were about to appreciate, I've seen some tatty ones for less than 3k although even they're generally looked after

I quite liked the V6.
£1,700 to insure Olly's Porsche.
Now, what inducement can I offer Hefty to get him to give it the once over?
