  • Green thing looks like an anorexic hq holden premier

  • Sat in a cafe in Dulwich now, should I text the mechanic and say "as well as all that maintenance can you plumb the methanol system in and retune it?"

  • Pavilion slice and an espresso. £620 for 15 bhp from ~3,000rpm, the (much) higher octane really wakes the car up, apparently.

  • There are differing levels of awful. A second ride is better than a first class walk.
The benefits were cars that were cheap, for the price you got lots of things that were extras (...like a heater ;) ) like a radio or even radio cassette player and wheel trims.

  • I don't think it was hatred as such, just cheap and not worth anything. Second hand values dropped like stones, so owners either kept them a long time, such as older people. Prime example were like the vtec civic's. Older people bought them and then younger people got hold of them......

But before that, they just got to an age that repair costs/parts exceeded value of the vehicle. What was the panel situation like? Or was it just repair panels from people like veng.

  • What was your first car again ;)

Aren't you supposed to be a holden or ford man like the rest of your lot :P

Oh and how fucking dare you not mention the Honda s600 coupe Pretty with an amazing roller bearing engine.

Part of the ugly comment is that Uk car design was influenced by america while the French and the Italians had there own style in design. Also the Japs were influenced by things but build things that are functional. Look at the Nissan Cube
It is postman Pat's van made real but and fugly but really comfortable and easy for people with limited movement such as older people to get in and out of. As well as lobbing kids and kids seats in the back. Function over form.

Also P6 NO. You are wrong and the rover having de dion rear suspension proves how wrong you are.

  • Many factors, unfortunately there was hatred. I worked at a mower repair shop many years ago. The owner had a late 70s toyota truck. He said when he first bought it in early 80s some of his clients went elsewhere when they saw that it wasnt british. Pretty bizare but true, an attitude that lingered along time, until the 90s I think. The Australians and Nz folk got on well with all nations car wise, hence a good stock of kp60s and Datto 510s etc. love honda s600 if only id bought one 20 years ago and kept it, deep pockets needed now.

  • The hard top isn't too bad, but the convertible is mucosa dolares

  • Look wise

    First Datsun fairlady

Then the diatsu of the same era, all designed by vignale:
Ok I chose the convertable as it is very pretty in an italian flair sort of way but even the saloon looks pretty

    Then there is the toyota:

  • I can't decide whether 15 brake is worth £620. Dither dither.

  • Wonder why, was it to do with killing the motorbike industry?

There wasn't the same hatred for merc, vw or BMW...

  • It was auto correct! :)

  • Guessed.

Went to see a few coupes that had had the engine replaced with a vauxhall viva one, suppose the viva engine was cheap and plenty full and the honda one a little more expensive to rebuild and harder to find.

  • Ok. Officially the coolest car owned by a Munger.

Shoulda hung on to that one!

  • Some 90s wankel action. Hanras has some great videos of other car stuff on youtube, would have been vhs.

  • I'd like to hit 400 bhp, for no good reason that I can articulate admittedly. I just like the idea of 400 horsepower in a Volvo estate car.

  • Recently picked up a Maserati Ghibli Biturbo but a rare GT with the Ferrari diff. Just 22,000 miles on the clock. A real beauty, rust free. Currently bringing her back to her former glory ready for Goodwood Revival in September :)

  • actions speak louder than words..

  • Brave is the individual (with deep pockets) who can bring those back from the brink.

  • lol

  • Not back from the brink. As a low mileage cosseted showpiece that's spent much of its life in a climate adjusted underground Japanese garage it is pretty mint.

Just usual issues with classic cars that don't get out much. Such as seized brake calipers (now sorted) and crappy fuel lines (now replaced).

More work to do but I am being a bit OCD about it. Mind you 300 BHP, luxury leather, walnut trim, race pedigree and the trident badge, it's worth it :)

  • Couldn't help but notice in my recent classified fantasising that boomerang light 3200GTs seem like good value. One went past me today and reminded me how awesome the engine note is.

  • Bodies are fine it is the mechanicals that are the issue.

Things like wishbones are very thin metal.
