A what car question.
I remember being driven in a open top, fiberglass bodied, 351 windsor V8 roadster. Designed and built in Australia. The speed and noise were amazing but I cannot remember the name of the car. Any ideas? Think it had a race series of it's own. -

Old Gas pipe. Literally.

bolwell?
the early ones had 202 red motors and most of them were hard tops

nice

That's it! Thanks - that's been bugging me for ages. Think the sound of the unrestricted exhaust crackling right next to my left ear erased all other knowledge.

In that case check the engine earth strap, clean the area on the engine and the body. Maybe add an extra strap.

Legacy is going - to be replaced by a 5 series touring - F11 520d, dull but makes more sense unfortunately... :(

@danstuff The GD handles. Like properly handles. It's an actual good car, not just a fun lookylikey.
Honestly, have a go in one, you'll be impressed.

Yeah, but then I'd end up buying the GD T70. I'm really not a Cobra fan. Not enough chest hair.
-

Totes. I've never seen the appeal of them. They're way down the list of reps I'd want:
GD T70
Martin and Walker 904
Proteus C-Type
Hawk Stratos
Superformance Daytona Coupe
Covin
Cobra
A Ferrari based on a fucking MR2 -

Finally stopped off and got a pic of the Dodge that resides in leafy Surburbiton...

This Cobra chat leaves me hot and cold, I think they're fucking lovely to look at but I wouldn't own one.
There's better lightweight platforms in which you can shove in a rowdy american V8.

How much are decent Cobra reps these days? I remember Evo reviewing 3 GT40 reps about 8 years ago and there was one ~50-60k and they really rated it. I'd rather have a GT40 than a Cobra.
-
• #25494
that's probably the list in order of cost, too.
there is the argument about kit v recreation to follow
-
• #25495
I'd still take the Cobra rep.
I know that the Cobra's aren't particularly subtle, but the GT40 is a bit too much.

I've never seen the point of a 500hp one. they are great to look at and listen to, but that is all they need to be, in my book.
the replica/recreation/kit/copy chat always end up in a discussion that doesn't compare like for like. the argument always assumes that all replicas/kits/etc cost exactly the same to build/buy.
there is a massive difference between the dude that builds a nice little kent powered seven in his tiny garage with minimal funds, and the money-no-object bloke that wants an exact copy of the '63 GTO that won the tdf.
i'm exaggerating to make a point, but a gt40 over a cobra? of course you would!

That is true, Cobra to GT40 is a big leap, I just don't know how much it costs for a decent Cobra rep.
-
• #25498
they vary quite a bit, and a lot are up for sale for ages, suggesting they are overpriced.
i reckon 30k for a good cobra v 75k for a GT40
-
• #25499
im a convertible whore, so i'd be looking at a c type if I had the 75k. in fact, i can't see what else would better that in that range

Query...once you have invested, sorry spunked out on a replica what would the return be liek down the road? ie do they hold value?
They're excellent. Down to the fat and tall tyres.
was actually searching for a Ukranian company that built bodies from Alu and even copper! Something about ex-aviation people building car bodies etc. I remember seeing one of their cobras in a mag. Polished and 100% awesome
