  • No way I'm taking the bike off the road. I'm with CIA who do both bikes and cars, so will give them a call.

Good suggestion on the named driver, although I thought that pushed the price up?

  • I don't think you can use the NCB on two vehicles at the same time.
I've found bike insurers that would accept my car NCB but not the other way around.
We insure our car with my partners NCB (my name added adds a 1/3 to the price) and my NCB stays with my bike.
Bike insurance is so much cheaper. And bike-only insurers are nicer too. And bikes are so much faster with and without traffic.
Why do you want a car again?

  • I expected the same, but no, reduced heavily, they must think I'm less of a risk being a married man with a functioning wife

  • I put the GF and my old dear both as named drivers on my insurance, dropped the quote considerably.

  • Can I put them on mine?

  • Not the GF.
Old Dear is all yours tho....

  • no she's not...

  • Given your age and length of licence-having, plus the option to put experienced drivers on as named drivers you should find that the car and engine size is somewhat irrelevant as far as insurance. When I insured the Merc I looked at the Carole Nash 6 wheel policy but it was cheaper to insure car and bikes separately with 3 different insurers.

I was thinking a Porsche should be far better-built than the equivalent BMW, Volvo, Merc or VW, so not go wrong as much. However this article suggests I'm dead wrong and pre 2007 models should be avoided at all costs. http://www.evo.co.uk/porsche/cayenne/6253/porsche-cayenne-buying-guide-tips. That 5 series is looking like a winner, albeit a dull one.

  • Just want to offer some mad props in the direction of @V-L for sorting out my irritating and awkward dent without the need for Polyfilla. A genuine 100% fix.

  • That's good!

Due to my mad parking skills (I parked equidistant from the cars either side) I now have matching dents in both doors so I'm looking for someone in the barren north to do much the same.

  • Urgh so the prospect of buying a newer car has reared its head again in the Jung kingdom. I've ruled out the 996 shuffle...I like the look of the 997s so much more and am willing to wait for the 06+s to get a few grand cheaper so I don't have to sell the Fury to justify one.

Been looking at E46 M3s...seems you can find sub 80k cars in good shape for less than $14k. Would need to be the SMG for the missus. Any thoughts? I love a good straight 6 and the muscular looks seem to have dated well.

  • There's a nice 996 here at the moment and I wouldn't mind pootling about in the 964 either. If you need for seats then go for the M3 but if not, I'd probably go for the Porsche. The price difference between 997's and 996's is still quite significant so I don't know how long you'd have to wait for it to drop.

  • Do I need this?

  • If you're asking the question, the answer is probably 'yes.'

  • So what was done in the end?

Also the arrowspeed rubber, any good? Had some on a omega and they were aweful. Have they got any better?

  • I could easily wait a few years. I really like the 964s but need something we can use everyday, the prices in CA have gone a bit silly recently too. Also not enamored with the prospect of a Tiptronic so could hang out for the first of the PDKs on the 997 front. I'm always optimistic about having more cash a few years hence anyways...(not that I have much empirical evidence to support it!)

4 seats, however rudimentary is a bonus. At least the dog can go in the back.

  • That all sounds reasonable. :)

  • Don't get a tip, 964 is only going to go up in price, thanks Magnus Walker, so 997 PDK is a good choice.

However, if going SMG, why no E46 CSL?

  • Good job! Was that @V-L 's guy?

  • They came on the car so I have nothing to compare against, but they'll be replaced soon and I'll be able to tell you. They're probably shite.

The dent was pulled out and resprayed
