  • I went in my mate's New GTR, it broke my strava. Astonishing car, get one. Also, the easiest drive round town, smooth, quiet and supple, a real surprise.

Yup. I think its going that way. If I have the chance, then why not ? I can always trade it in.

  • Also you can still just about cram two 5'10" adults in the back of the GTR, though that'd not be much fun.

    For them.

    So who cares?

  • Plus points for GTR

    • Fast, handles well
    • Loads of impressive numbered statistics for boasting to other saddos in the pub

    Minus points for GTR

    • Hideous
    • Too wide
    • Having to explain why you sold your Porsche 911 Turbo to buy a fucking Nissan to a potential lover
    • General owner perception is of PH twat / compulsive masturbator
    • Everyone on trackdays will think you're talentless, no matter how fast you lap
    • You could buy an NSX for the same money

Don't underestimate the last point. It might be a fucking Honda but you can just refer to it as 'Ayrton Senna's old car'

  • Gtr won't be a patch on 911 turbo. I can keep up with a gtr in my dad's 996 c2.

Plus interior is nowhere near as nice.

What do you want from a car?

Hmmmm. Usually I want brutal power, superb handling and decent build quality. Thats why I gave up on Masarati, Aston Martin and Schnitzer BMW.

I love my 911, despite the fact that its broken. But the apparent brutality of the GTR appeals. Also, I live in the welsh mountains. So AWD useful.

    Hideous - Yup
    Too wide - Yup
Keeping the 911 Turbo. They can prise the keys from my cold dead hands.
    Compulsive masturbator - Yup
Track days - Every day is a track day in Wales
NSX - test drove one years ago. Didn't like it.

  • That is PIG ugly.

  • Pork Belly pls.

  • Is there a tech/safety reason that car sills can't just slope away under the car any more?
Why do they have to jut out like Jimmy Hill's chin?

For reference ('scuse the nasty Yank tyres):

  • Those wheels ate indeed pony.

Guessing there is some beefy super structure in the door sills. Aero / skirt drag prob has a play in it to. Not sure the E type would take a t bone that well.

      '

If you're talking about your car to a 'potential' lover then there's a fair chance that 'potential' is about as near as you're gonna get. Though countless numbers of hot bitches (my Mum anyway) get into my van and go, "ooh, I like this, it's very high up, you can see loads more." Never underestimate a van...

The rest of it is all legit though.

  • Compulsive masturbator

Grafting an Audi B7 grille onto an Elise 111r gives you a bearded clam that's a hoot, to boot.
    HTH.

  • Pretty sure oversteer was the issue! ph.2 looks much better IMO and probably nicer to drive. Want

Hard to get oversteer when it wouldn't turn in properly

  • GTR's are amazing. My friend has one and I drove it for a whole 2 minuets. I haven't driven one using launch control but i've been a passenger, very impressive bit of tech.

I was actually quite disappointed with the interior, just found it very basic looking but I guess money has to be saved somewhere to get a car of that performance at a reasonable price.

Unrelated to the GTR but I've had fun in some toys this week, which all happen to be Audi..

R8 belongs to my friend, A1 is mine

I had a blast in the R8 and I have to admit it scared me a little, it's silly quick. Yes maintenance is very expensive on them but you get a lot of car for the money, I thoroughly enjoyed it and would have one (ha, if I had the money) in a heartbeat.

Next up.. RS5. This one belongs to a family member.

Have to say I didn't love this car as I thought I would. . Beautiful sound when you go for it but not sure if this is correct but it sounded as if some of that noise was coming out the stereo speakers!?
I live near a bypass, which I think is 8 miles of straight road with just a single roundabout placed 1/2 way. You can get a RS5 flat out then back down to negotiate the roundabout and back up again no problem. RS5 is not pleasant and was extremely twitchy, almost as if the steering was not progressing enough with speed it was just staying as light as if you were doing 50mph, electronic steering sucks going fast. It's a very, very quick car but it didn't give me the scare I was hoping for.

  • just had a quick ride in my neighbours 911 turbo 996
10 years old or so but still feels pretty solid and nice inside, full leather ages well
he didn't really get it out of second but golly it pulls in 1st and 2nd
    seriously fast motor

even with 4wd you can still feel the front wheels scrabbling for grip once the turbo spools up
i had thought it was an older model and it might have some nice turbo lag but it think this model has twin turbo's so you don't really notice the lag, plus the fact 1st is over so quickly you don't really get a chance to feel for the lag kicking in it's just acceleration

A great car. Like really great.

They really are amazing. Its so hard to find the limits of the grip. God knows I have tried. And virtually no turbo lag at all. Response seems instant.

I am waiting to get mine back from SVP in Worcestershire. Clutch failed, and by some million to one chance, it cracked the alloy gearbox housing. So needs a replacement manual gearbox and a clutch. Hopefully be done in the next few weeks. I have really missed that car. :-(

Other than that its been a great car, and very solidly built.

Thinking of possibly a Nissan GTR later in the year. Any opinions ?

You'll get bored of the brutality. And it's not exactly a looker - it's about as refined as home brew lager.

Can you? Well I never knew.

There appear to be a few conflicting stories as to how involved he actually was during the development of that car.

  • You will always get bored of the brutality. Never buy a car on how brutal the acceleration is.

Pffft. Electric manufacturers take note. I want Tron sounds.

Stiffer shell, more structure to absorb side-impacts before reaching passengers, and reducing drag by ensuring the flow of air from front to rear. With a cut-away sill I'd expect the air below the car between the nose and just behind the front wheels to stagnate.

  • Pffft. Electric manufacturers take note. I want Tron sounds.

    some companies do this
very slight sound from stereo to enhance the sound of a muffled EU directed catalytic exhaust

  • I use my 2 year old to simulate gearbox whine.

  • Anyone want a single Saturday ticket to Goodwood Revival with *paddock pass*?

  • Just the one ticket pls...

  • Anyone want a single Saturday ticket to Goodwood Revival with *paddock pass*?

    Yes. Megadibs

  • Looking again for land yacht to cruise europe with my mate in.
    Opinions? clicky \/

  • I love 500sec's but not that one, too low with nasty wheels
