  • What engine/year?

  • Edit: just checked - it's a 1993, white with blue cloth, 2-litre OHC injection, 5-speed manual, 51K miles.

  • Sounds good- shame it's not the 2.3 but there you go.

I'd want to know about the mileage- has it really done 50 miles/week for the past 20 years, or did it do a more normal mileage in it's early life, then sit for a long period?

  • Mmm, good thinking. Must be one of the lowest mileage ones around but that isn't necessarily a plus... it all depends. Nice that it's 5-spd not 4 + OD. Might pop over and see it next week. Does the 2.0 give any better mpg than the 2.3?

  • Not really, it's a bit gutless in comparison so you need to wring it out a bit more, so mileage ends up fairly even.

Let me have a look at what info I have on the B200F.

  • so now that the car is running great, the horn decides to stop working on the way back home. Balls
Its quite urgent getting it working though as all the 4x4's and trucks can barely see me and had a few close calls where a toot would have come in handy.
So Ive been searching around the engine bay and cant for the life of me find where it is/where the break is. Does anyone have a diagram showing me the location/wiring of it? Online copy of the original hayes manual?
I know its not the stalk as the indicators/high beams still work....
    I feel like a numpty

  • behind the grill, i reckon

  • Looks awesome, did you have much room in there?

  • Not too bad at all, once I had worked out where to put my feet.

  • damn mini's and all their problems! So found the horn (thanks brm) behind the grill.
Proceed to take of grill and its a simply replugging of a little crimp connector......or is it?
After popping it back in, i check the horn works and it does - great success! I then decide its sensible to check if everything else works.....
    side lights - check
    headlights - check
    high beam - check
high beam flasher - not working.
    aarrrrgghhhhhh
so turns out the high beam flash is wired with the horn. The horn now doesnt work anymore and neither does the flash. So removed the crimp and connector, stripped the wire and wrapped it around the terminal on the horn. Everything works! great success.
now where did I put my crimps plugs.....oh wait i dont have any! so off to bed and maplin tomorrow
and I was so happy I had fixed the horn for a whole 3 minutes

tl;dr - fixed the horn, broke the lights and the horn again, stripped wire, dont have part, going to maplin tomorrow to get it #csb

  • Fixed.

Looks fun. What did it feel like? As fast as you were expecting or lacking?

    Absolutely brilliant.
I wasn't sure what to expect, and was somewhat terrified beforehand, not helped by the Silverstone staff telling me I would need waterproof underwear when I told her which experience I was going to be doing.
Once in the car I calmed down a bit, and the driver left the paddock at Stowe and immediately floored it in a bit of showboating. "OK, he's just showing off, it'll calm down now" I thought, but no. Hammering towards Vale just getting faster and faster, I'm thinking "ohshitohshitohshithe'snotslowingdown!" before he braked as late as possible and went round it at a ridiculous speed and accellerated through Club and up the International Pits Straight. On this and the Hanger straight we were overtaking Ferrari 360s and Aston Martin V8 Vantages going absolutely flat out as though they were just standing still, and by now the fear had been replaced by sheer exhilaration.
The thing is wicked fast. It's geared to do about 150mph and 0-60 in 3 seconds, and weighs just 650kg. The G-forces are astonishing, cos the car generates so much grip in corners, so they are all taken much faster and much later than you would ever imagine. Abbey and Farm were taken more or less flat, you're flung from one side to the other at Village and then, because it's the International circuit, not the GP circuit, you go through the link and actually powerslide round the tight 90° onto the Hangar Straight for a flat out blast to Stowe.
I think it was one out lap, one flying lap and one in lap, but it might have been two flying laps. My ride was just after they had put a fresh set of tyres on and given it the once over, and on the out lap you could see the rubber flying off the tyres. In 10 minutes it was all over, but what a 10 minutes!

  • Had the car for a month now and already have two speeding fines. I guess it's just a case of remembering where the cameras are.

They do handily send you an sms notifying you that you've been a naughty boy.

I was only doing 140 in and 80 zone for the first one which'll cost me £120, but the second one may hit harder financially...

Get too many in a short space of time and they impound your car in a desert compound. Exactly the kind of place you'd NEVER want to leave a matchbox car, let alone a real one.

Next month will see new boots all round and I'm toying with road-legal semi slick things.

  • I'll keep my eyes peeled on a 'Brits Banged Up Abroad' program!
    Is that 140kph or mph??

  • Sweepstake on how long it will be before B&D's new golf is abandoned at the airport with all the others and he flees the country on a false passport.

  • 45 days

  • ill give him 3 months,
    @ricky2slicky - I lol'd

On other news engine now idles fine and no cutting out nonsense but it is now overheating if it is stationary for more than five minutes once warmed up (cools down again once moving at speed)

    • Didnt have this problem before
      What could it be?
