  • So what you are saying is that you are in an ideal position to recommend the kit we'd need, as you have already spent the time researching the matter?

  • Lowpug, do you know what kit we'd need, or is it a case of surfing that forum for the lowdown?

Not 100% sure on the exact needs. I only ever did this to my own cars and only ever used a machine buffer on a replacement panel (didn't matter if I accidentally burnt the paint) so can't claim anything more than personal experience.

I would start with a dual mode machine. 3 buffing pads - 1 for each compound. At least 10 microfibre towels (50x50cm) for buffing and 4 or 5 foam applicator pads. Also a water spray bottle to mist the paint for clay barring and polishing.

For the chems, I just used Meguires stuff - seemed to always do what it was meant to. They also smell good...

Wash liquid, Clay bar kit, cutting and polishing compound, wax and sealant can all be bought from them.

  • Also, watch the detailing vids on the drive channel

  • Check out the new wheels on the Brockley Express...

Good news is the car handles really well. The recent mods seemed to have worked. Bad news is, although I was blatantly driving the fastest car on track:

    ...it is slow as fnck.

I did almost poo my pants when I approached St Mary's flat out for the first time.

    Awesome.

  • Can we fit my brakes under your wheels?

  • negative.

brakes aren't really needed at the moment.

  • I need POWER!

(...and new kingpins, as mine are going to have to be packed hard with grease to pass the MOT)

  • Power you say?

  • Where was that BRM? MG looks hot with the new wheels!

Did people laugh at you getting in and out of it...?

  • goodwood.

they laughed like fuck when i couldn't get *IN *with the roof up and a helmet on!

after about the third lap, i was frozen solid.

  • Haha. Aaw. I'm sorry for laughing. Couldn't get in then put the roof up over you?

More importantly, did you have fun, and did you decimate that Aston?

  • nope. there's a bar that goes straight over my head.

even the normal sized dudes were saying they needed seat mods to fit in a b with a roll cage & hardtop.

  • It was so much fun. I can see how easy it is to a)get addicted and b)get over-confident and bin it. i can't wait to go again. that little gt junior in the pic up there is my mates. we're taking that back to goodwood in july.

  • Great pics and glad you had a good day! The new wheels look great!
I've yet to visit goodwood but I hope to get to revival this year!

    Those alfas....ooof!

  • ^^That's why something like an MX-5 is a good idea I reckon, it's not a tragedy if you bin it as shells are so cheap now.

I still reckon an MX-5 track car that we can tow with the 850 would be a plan, it could live on it's trailer at my gaff when we're not using it.

  • GT Junior looks brilliant!

Shame about the bar but open top motoring is what it's all about eh?

The trick is pushing it to the point of binning it but just being able to recover.

  • The GTJ is absolutely immaculate and must be one of the best ones around. brembos, lsd and a 2000. he paid top $$$, but it really is that good. the bark from the dellortos is amazing.

    it murders the mgb :(

i love the idea of an mx-5, but in reality, i need to sort the b put before i move on to anything else.

front end first, then i need to decide on what happens under the bonnet. an engine rebuild/transplant is on the horizon.

    then de-rubberbumperify.

it's funny. i wanted to sell it at christmas time.

  • ricky - come to goodwood on the 22nd of jan. it's an alfo owners club day. i will poss have room.

  • Nicely done mate! Where are the on the lockstops pics?

Trackdays are hugely amusing, especially if you're there with like-minded friends.
