It's like any Scooby Doo villain mated with pizza guy from TFATF:

  • Tubs?

  • 456 is my favourite modern Ferrari, I'd have it in dark blue with a tan interior

  • i am surprised by the 456 love (i don't hate 'em - but am a bit of a ferrari fanboy).
    i prefer the 599 or the 550/575.
    i'd have it red-as-fuck, too.

  • I like them because they're subdued, verging on the right side of bland

  • Loved the 612 as well, although it took a while to warm to me

  • I like the 456 because I remember a magazine article where they drove the 456 on the A456 and called the article, "A 456 on the A456".

  • 550 was body on chassis as I recall- the race version had to cut holes in the boot lid to mount the wing on the chassis rails.

    Old school!

    "Lynne, idea for tv show..."

  • I like the 550/575s. Wasn't the 550 the last Ferrari with a proper gearbox?

512 bb / tr still my favourite modern(ish) era Fezza.

Except the 288 GTO but they're mindless exotica so don't really count.

  • Proper Ferrari's are yellow.

Anyone who owns a red one never keeps it.

Been in the family since 1975. We must be the exception to the rule.

Very nice! The thinking man's Ferrari stable.
My dad has frequently thought about getting a 456 but he's never been quite brave enough to get it done. Tell us the story about the Dino!

Here's a quick version while I'm on the train.
My father bought it as a whole car in 1975. When he went to pick it up it was in bits. He always says it was literally in boxes. While he was waiting for the seller to fix it all up, the police investigated the dealer for various things so my dad nipped in pretty rapidly to take the dino in its boxes, rather than getting nothing at all.

My uncle was a mechanic who had worked in f1, including brabham and Jordan. He basically put it all back together which was a painstaking process. Apparently Ferrari had released the list of each individual part, but not how they went together. So I guess my uncle used as much guesswork as skill. When I talk about parts, I mean things as small as nuts and bolts which had no apparent location. It had been non traditional in terms of paint, so that got sorted.

It had been largely unused until recently when it had a full overhaul and is relatively useable. It's last outing was when I got a lift to school in it when I was 6 and it all went to shit.

In the garage behind the cars in shot is a 1957 lotus elite and a modern and utterly boring yellow elan.

  • Stop press. Just found out two things - one, my newish house mate has a Ford Puma tucked away at her Ma's and two, she's planning on sending it to the scrappy this weekend. It's a black 1.7 with both MoT and tax expired - she's now got a company car and lost interest but had a new clutch and brakes earlier this year. A few issues, sure, but bodywork sounds ok and worth saving probably (haven't seen it mind). Would rescue it myself if I had the room as the breaker is only offering £200. PM if you want a project.

  • As a died in the wool biker, having held a full bike license for over 20 years and only having passed my driving test (first time) 2 years ago it's amazing to me the lengths car drivers go to for things like power when in real terms it's fairly arbitrary.

Yes, you could slap a turbo in or a super-charger but the gains will be nominal in terms of the cost and possibly unusable on the road. A tweaked bike will always beat a car in power to weight ratio and the only real benefits of a car are weather protection, heating, and maybe a stereo.

    Just saying :)

  • Or maybe it's the fact you have to go full on, balls out, knee down to beat me in a car round a race track.

I like cornering fast, I don't want to go really fast in a straight line.

Totally gratuitous knee down shot of me....(sorry)

  • No need to be sorry. Perfectly acceptable time to bust that out.

  • Is that the bike in your bedroom?

  • Yup! (but with the fairing on)
