  • cars, i mean.

  • £200 - fuck me. i will stay at a mate's in bosham, down the road. i'll gve you a shout when i'm sure.

I was hoping I'd be able to park in the tax-exempt show car park, but I'm too modern by 3 years.

  • yep, I'm going for the day on saturday. first time. excited. haven't yet looked into exactly what is happening.

  • Racing! I've got a paddock pass, no promises but I might be able to lend it out.

  • cars, i mean.

    Me?

    My car is 16.

  • Me?

    My car is 16.

    okay, 20

  • in other news: in a fortnight, i get to be the navigator in this:

at a VSCC event in norfolk.

    Woo.

  • the latter. no offence.

    Non taken.

I think you should not be allowed anything over 15 years old.

    okay, 20

Modern cars are never going to look as good as older cars for many reasons, the main one being the very tough safety regs that new cars have to comply to. This tends to make modern cars bloated and flabby.

I maintain that for a modern car the V40 isn't bad looking and compared to its rather bland peers it is outright attractive. One of the reasons for this is, IMO, due to the fact that there is no void under the bonnet, as the car has an airbag under the bonnet to protect idiotic peds when they wander into traffic in an iPod induced haze.

How old do they have to be?

Sorely tempted, particularly as I missed Festival of Speed and have done bugger all fun things this year.

  • pre '66, i think

  • They shut the circuit for competitive racing the year that Sterling Moss crashed, the cars that are allowed in are up to that date I believe.

Although that may be just a story- he had that crash in '62 (from a quick Google).

  • nope - crispy was right - pre '73. pre '66 inside the circuit.

i think it used to be pre '66 in the carpark, too.

  • alright!
i am in for the friday.

  • GW Revival on the Friday, you say...?

  • The day before my sister's wedding you say?

  • what could possibly go wrong?

  • Me, the third Earl of Winchester, the night before a wedding... with my reputation?!

  • The year thing depends on the year racing at goodwood.

Now would you buy a masserati 228 with 8 months MOT for 2k? Normally these go for around 8k (allegedly one of 30 right hand drive cars), what would you think?

  • There may be trouble ahead.

  • Just got a text the masserati has a lovely interior ;) but doesn't stop to well.

  • Stopping can be fundamental.

  • Mate is working on the principal it can't be that bad due to the MOT and I have all the suspension from the remains of mine. Hopefully left hooker should be the same ish as right and everything will fit as the biturbo are sort of the same as 'think' the chassis never changed that much.

Oh and the usual italian handbrake, just texted him that that the brake operate on shoes on the inside of the rear discs.

This is going to be a comedy.

  • Didn't that era of Maserati's have chronic reliability issues?

  • I nearly bought a Biturbo from Garage on the Green years ago, but was put off by a pal who said that they were utter shockers.

    No.
    I wouldn't buy a Biturbo at all.
