  • shit happens!
i don't know you but because of your bike i found this forum! [ i was googling georama]
    lucky you are ok, man
looking at your bike hurts :(
    get well soon

  • I was hurt as much as the frame
    R.I.P

    You're not dead are you?

  • You're not dead are you?

    HAHAHAHAHA lollercaust, I actually laughed.

I'm not brave enough to RLJ in these conditions: ..!

    "that road is soooo tight
only can see when your in the middle"

"unlucky, should always look before you run those reds, almost happened to me today but i was going way too fast and they missed me"

  • Is that a HHSB? I guess when you jump the lights there's no complaint when you get hit. You just gotta jump clever

  • he's not complaining tho is he.

  • nice photo ed.

  • Still far from cheap, but there is sale on some NJS frames here:

    http://www.chariandconyc.com/frames.aspx

  • at least the 'spok is OK !

  • Gok Wan would ride that bike

  • what happened to the poor little citroen?

That's what I want to know.

  • Gok Wan would be ridden by that bike

By the look of him, this may be more accurate :)

  • I'm sure the driver would have been happy if you'd died, and the passers by who witnessed the crash, and the paramedics that scraped your remains off the road, and the copper that had to break the news to your family..

  • Red Light jumping is a skill that should only really be used on lights which you know in my opinion. For some experienced riders that can be most of the lights in Central London. Flying blindly through random red lights is just insanity. Glad you are ok though, people need to take more care of themselves out there

  • Ohhhh, that hurts almost as much as my the sight of my pink Surly (similarly mangled a couple of months ago; still sitting in the corner of my room). Are you OK? Bruised, or worse? (And are you still grieving the bike, or are you a bit harder than me when it comes to such things?)

  • so who pays for the damage to the car?

  • shame...but cycling proficiency fail!

  • so who pays for the damage to the car?

Do any of you have third party liability insurance to cover the extreme rarity that a cyclist might actually be in the wrong.

I don't, but our roads can in no way be compared to those in London. I have had my car damaged by a cyclist who thought he could track stand and landed on my front wing at a set of lights. My pocket was a tad lighter by the time I had paid for the repairs.

  • I can't believe such an iconic bike is dead. Ah well, it knew the risks...

  • i have 3rd party cover through LCC membership.
I don't own a car but if a brakeless cyclist ran in to me jumping a light i would expect them to pay for the damage or at least pay with a kick in the nuts or something similar.

  • Long story cut short, but a cyclist went into my ex's jag in Richmond Park, and he ended up forking out for some 3gs worth of damage to the car, so it does happen

This was my first thought. Emilia and I have a mutual acquaintance who ran into the back of a car and caused a fair bit of damage. fortunately the 3rd party CTC insurance picked up the tab.
I figure my CTC membership with built-in 3rd party insurance is £40 a year well spent, because even minor damage to a car these days runs to hundreds of quid and I'd rather have the peace of mind. Plus their legal aid is excellent.

  • so who pays for the damage to the car?

if any of the drivers, or peds who have hit me in the past had ever stuck around long enough for me to get off the ground then i would possibly consider paying for damage to a car if i ever cause any.

even the time i caused a crash, the driver drove off before getting my details.

I did for a bit as I had my bike insured through CTC so the 3rd party stuff came with it. Its not valid though if your a courier or have no brakes, I'm sure going through a red light would invalidate it aswell.

You really have to be careful going through red lights. When I worked as a courier some of the new starts would automatically see the veterans going through red lights and think they could do it, these people either got knocked off within a few months or scared so bad they retired.

  • I have third party cover via BCF membership (or racing licence, not sure which), which applies even if it is your fault. Useful because imagine squeezing between a bentley and a bus and scratching the door - it'd cost thousands to repair.
