  • Here is what they say:

  • "Ultimate state-of the art retail concept"
I'm gonna be expecting some space-age shit then!

  • Sheesh guys that was irony. What do I have to do, wave a flag next time?

I hope you've studied Semaphore Units 2 and 3. None of this basic shit.

  • "Ultimate state-of the art retail concept"

This houses 3 Rapha silk scarfs.

That's Gray's Inn Road there. The cabbies will complain I tell you.

  • They're quite pretty, though I reckon anyone who rides one while wearing Rapha gear needs a slap.

while only riding the pista... feel free if you see me

  • service in condor varies massivley depending on which person serves you... on the whole i seem to get one of the very helpful guys, but from experience i can see why the shop has that mixed reputation...

a few times i was served by some guys who were quite unhelpful and condescending about enquiries. (saying that i havent seen those boys working there in a while) they were the kind of assistant who says.."what do you want that for? your not racing properly..." it leaves you to thinking... im here to buy something.. id like your advice, but just because you race for the shop where you work doesn't mean your an olympic hopeful worthy of praise for contributions to the sport! your supposed to be encouraging people in cycling and selling people equipment with constructive advice. not snubbing someone who might want to start riding/racing a bit more seriously...

this was a couple of years ago... but does seem to match the experience of others...

  • yeah but what did you want it for if you don't race properly?

  • i started racing... and i suddenly felt much better... then my wallet felt much worse

  • I just spent £1000 at Condor. Bought a Specialized Singlecross, for use as commute, off road fun bike..very happy - apart from the shit saddle, post, brakes, noisy drive bits ( but I intend to change all that so not complaining, it's a great bike). I also spent £500 on upgrading my 07 Sirrus Pro to make it better for long road rides and summer charity rides. Somehow all those bits of paper and invoices/service tickets etc were ignored by the mechanic who did the work. I have a 170 crank instead of 172.5...I have a long cage rear instead of a short 1..and he didn't fit the KMC chain I paid £23.99 for. I kinda wish I hadn't been drawn by Condor's reputation as a top shop and had gone to my old Specialized dealer instead.

  • £1k bike for commuter and you don't like half the parts and how come the long ride bike is cheaper than the commuter and £24 on a commuter chain? Ouch.

  • £1k total spend...£500 on Singlecross ( for commuting and mud) :)....£500 upgrades for Sirrus = Easton Vista wheels, Hutchinson tyres, Ultegra crankset/rear mech with KMC chain.

They did a great job of cable tying my old wheels to my back for journey to Fenchurch St though!

  • Ahh, that makes more sense.

  • This makes me feel slightly better. I spent £200 there the other day, without even meaning to. (And I'm meant to be poor.)

  • I have the ticket/recipt that clearly shows 172 crank, chain etc....so how did I end up with different stuff? Could they heve explained why when I picked up the bike? Or - are they just too damm busy!

I must say, I haven't had a chance to ring the shop and question them yet, but wish they'd just got it right in the first place and I didn't have to shlep up there again :(

  • Where are you? Why didn't you go somewhere local?

  • I have just got in from the pub - back to mates - shop....and must say the SINGLECROSS is THE NUTS!!!

The Italian-sounding dude who helped me with the Potenza order was a nice guy.

5 weeks later I came back for pickup. Upon reviewing the receipt form there was the added cost of lights (£18.99) and a freewheel (£10), despite the guys saying their hubs are flip-flop (freewheel/fixed). I also specified a white chain and white tyres (forgive me). But I got a dark greyish one and black tyres. Campag Veloce brakes over the Shimano Toras was a nice bonus though...

When I pointed out the lights to him even he didn't recognise it to be his own handwriting...
Anyway, he cancelled that cost, but the freewheel I didn't bother with.

He also charged me the price only a pair of pedals for pedals, toe clips and straps, which was nice :)

Apart from the weird mixup with the receipt, service was alright.

It was pretty busy when I first went it and it took some time before I got any service.
Hopefully with their new store opened things should be much better!

  • Yep, the new store is nice! Not sure about the new 'French' uniforms though... :s

  • It is not right to defend Condor, especially if they fuck you up with an order. But I use Condor more out of loyalty and convenience.

But i don't get why they treat some customers badly.. fuck there are loads on this forum that are a little cheesed off with them. Obviously, if i call in asking for a Fizik Arione CX saddle or Mavic Kysium wheels they want my business, and give my a good discount as a regular customer and treat me well.

We should post a ratings/poll of a few London independent shops, that might make them listen to their customers. Lets find top five for the people to champion.. between say Cavendish, Brixton, BLB, Condor, someone choose another.

  • I always remember Condor from 30/35 years ago always staffed by has been racers with an attitude problem, looks like nothing has changed in all those years.

Fucking up there own arses tossers.......

how does one justify spending this kinda money on commuting?? .. they saw you coming.. I was out riding last week (84 mile spin around Kent) with about 10 fireflies.. one guy turns up riding a brand new RaphaCondor racing bike, rapha jacket, rapha bibshorts, sidi cycle shoes, catlike helmets all new.. I reckon they saw him coming too..

  • is this a ''bike to work sham'' / scheme thing?? .. i really don't get it... I spent £200 tops rebuilding a track bike for my commute to work.. WTF??

  • I have a secure lockup.. what's wrong with me riding a £5000 bike to work?

  • £5000 bike to tool around, doesn't seem worth it to me.. sorry Hippy just IMHO.. I spend serious money on my road bike, because i ride that upto 10 hours at a time.. not 40 minutes from home and work..

  • I used to commute to work on my race bike.. specificity innit. I'd go straight to training sessions after work and then ride home. Don't be too quick to judge.. actually fuck it.. I would :)
