  • The chap from the Fun Lovin Criminals can also fuck right off.

He has a great way of dealing with shit playlist songs though.

  • After 35hrs forced Heart FM thru some bizzare office music policy, 6 music evenings and weekends is refreshing.

Not really mentioned much in todays posts, Don Letts & Tom Robinson are really good too. On 'Now Playing' I'm pretty sure Tom is on commission from both Kate Bush & Utah Saints, as they seem to be shoe horned into any theme.

I'd lose Cerys just for the poetry stuff she tries, but her tune selection is great so she can stay.

CC Funk & Soul is grating & great in equal measures.

What's the deal with Mary-Anne & Nils Frahm, more commission?

  • 35hrs forced Heart FM

    Hourly.

    Night all!

  • Absolute on in work . Wicks diy anyone

  • I’m a fan of most shows on 6 music, but Lauren Lavern can get to fuck. I just can’t listen to her without wanting to destroy things.

I’ve actually got a ticket for their weekend thing in Belfast. I’m planning on cycling up from Cardiff. £18 a ticket too!

  • My god, Lamaq...
    He needs to rollover.

"Get in touch if you've ever missed a train"
"Get in touch if you've ever stood behind someone tall"
"Get in touch if your handwriting is the worst out of everyone you know"

And the fucking listeners think that their limp anecdotes and banalities are worth broadcasting.

^Thems are all actual phone in subjects

  • I like Huey in the AM and Gilles Peterson in the PM on Saturdays. GP's New York Jazz special was excellent last week.

Tom Ravenscroft also plays a pretty decent spectrum of stuff. Never realised he was John Peels son until a few months ago when one of the other 6M presents mentioned it.

  • I heard him asking people to call in last week if their wedding photoshoot had been interrupted by something unexpected.
    WTF.

Also, he has the WORST taste in music of any BBC presenter of all time.

  • Agreed. Asking for listener's opinions/anecdotes is consistently dreadful.
And when someone dies - Prince, Bowie, Mark E Smith, Mick Hucknall etc I don't want to hear from some mouth breathing simpleton self-styled superfan who once shat in a cubicle next to them.

It's still my go-to radio station of choice.

  • Really interesting how much DJs divide opinion. I think 6 has the balance of DJ talk v music played, especially compared with anything on commercial radio. Besides Keaveny, they get on with playing tunes pretty quickly. Take the point on playlist, but at least they playlist things outside of the mainstream.

I'm a total 6music fanboy. Bought my first DAB when it was launched, to listen to Phill J on breakfast. Campaigned when it was threatened with closure. Serial listener to Adam and Joe and genius of Collings and Herrin.

For what it's worth, I think Lauren Laverne is classic daytime broadcasting (and like the gumption of playing more hip hop/electronic music in the face of the classic guitar based listener base). Huey is brilliant even if some of his opinions can be divisive (listen to his podcast for examples), but the music is spot on. Nemone's Electric Ladyland show plays a great mix of electronica - again can't think of a comparable show available elsewhere. Lamacq's roundtable has interesting guests and good to hear thought-out opinions. M-A Hobbs on an early weekend morning is beautiful listening - this from someone who has spent a lot of time up very early dealing with baby shenanigans. Enjoy Tom Robinson's enthusiasm for music of all types.

  • That there Marc Riley has some chip about that there London.

  • Thats cos he is a manc . They all have chips . (Scouser)

  • I listened to that programme, and wondered if he was doing a really quite clever post-modern pastiche of Danny Baker's phone-in topics. Turns out he's just a boring fuck.

  • I could listen to Mark Riley all day long. I won the ‘Tea Time Theme Time’ on RadMac a couple of weeks ago #kissmyfeet

  • listen to Phill J on breakfast

Still remains my favourite ever weekday radio breakfast show, Adam & Joe take the weekend slot.

  • Also, he has the WORST taste in music of any BBC presenter of all time.

I tuned in to his show the other day and thought I was listening to my uni housemates trilby-wearing indie-jangle playlist, circa 2004

  • Lamaq is a wankstain on music

  • Love starting my day with the Hill Street Blues theme, anyone else blown away hearing Mike Post's back catalogue this week?

    Also, Rza for president.

  • Am biased in that I like Lauren Laverne when she's on form (perhaps because I was featured on Desert Island Disco a few years ago), but Lamacq really needs to understand Brit Pop was shit then and doesn't warrant the rose-tinted glasses that seem to be stuck to his face.

  • BBC 6 generally great I think but there are some DJs that I find irritating. Liz Kershaw springs to mind. And I find the sound of Mary Anne Hobbs' gushing voice and overuse of superlatives unlistenably annoying. The mancunian-sounding muso blokes kind of blend together for me. Huey lays it on so thickly that it amazes me it works so well. Lamaq, meh. Gilles Peterson's show is, to be fair, excellent but I feel it's a bit pretentious. All nitpicking really, we're lucky to have it. Keavely is great, just what I need in the morning. I really enjoyed PSI Friday this morning :-)

  • Compared to the '70s/'80s Radio 1 of Smashy & Nicey, anything played on BBC6Music by anyone is incomparably better, if not subversive.

  • MAH quote "Missy Elliot....she doesn't think laterally......she thinks diagonally!" ...'nuff said.

  • the sound of Mary Anne Hobbs' gushing voice and overuse of superlatives unlistenably annoying

    +1000

  • I really enjoyed PSI Friday this morning :-)

    Me too, made me chuckle.
