This thread troubles me somewhat - and the tags suggest I'm not alone.
Presumably the thread troubles you because you've discovered that you are part of forum where the majority of the community are male and have more than a passing interest in the female form. The direction of the thread has changed since I started it but that is a function of the many forumengers that have posted on it.
So is it the thread that concerns you or the forum?
Try sorting the general category by posts, this is the 7th most viewd thread, you will also find 2 Vic P threads with a total of 65k+ views.
Tagging the thread with wank-fodder etc suggests whoever tagged the thread is a coward. If you have an issue then state it in a post so we know who you are.

So is it the thread that concerns you or the forum?
Definitely the latter.
I was half expecting someone to put up that most clichéd of responses 'you don't have to read it if you don't want to'. It's a relief no-one has, but my response would have been that it's all well and good ignoring a thread, but it's the fact the thread exists that troubles me. I'm not judging anyone, but looking at all the different characteristics of this forum, it's the fact that so many members seem to be intelligent, self-aware people that makes this place what it is for me; seeing a thread descend into an excuse to post a bit of bare flesh goes against what I thought this forum was all about. Maybe I'm mistaken, but I thought we were more enlightened than this?
I'm not naive enough to think I'm speaking on behalf of other members, but having a thread like this makes me feel uncomfortable, and sends a message out to potential and existing members - both male and female - that the site's a touch on the chauvinistic side.
I appreciate that this thread wasn't started as an excuse to post pictures like this, but nonetheless, that's what it has become - and I certainly don't blame fasteddy for the way it's turned out - that responsibility lies with the other members who have posted here.

Fair point, but I've been on the 'who's online' link plenty of times and seen that there's always a guest or a crawler looking at the Victoria Pendelton thread - which just means any old bugger's typed her name into Google and been directed here.
I'm not going to get a bee in my bonnet about all this though - I'm not one for internet crusades, as you always end up looking like a twat, if I haven't already. Like your mum always used to say though, 'I'm not upset, just disappointed...'

It's not as if the thread , which lets not forget is entitled 'Glossy photos of girls on bikes', has gone off-topic is it? It is what it is.

It has, kind of. Someone was just trying to sell some calendars.
Anyway, its just some pics of girls on bikes. Lets not have a cry. Theres far worse going on in the world than this thread.

Hmm... can internet photos be glossy? Surely it depends on the screen that the viewer is using.

The mere existence of a thread troubles you? Wow. How do you sleep at night? Are you troubled now? This instance?
I do not agree with the way some of the posts in this thread objectify women and purposefully seeks to dissolve the image from the people in them, however I am not a censor and the thread won't be deleted. The existence of the thread is therefore pretty much guaranteed.
Voltaire wins the day you see... to paraphrase "I disagree with what you say but I'll fight for your right to say it.".
I much prefer that -isms are handled much like we handle the distasteful political parties, tolerate them so that others can see how wrong they are and let wider society's morals and ethics beat them back.
Your post fit that, but it's a bit silly to go off on one about how you're troubled by the existence of something so silly as a thread on a forum.
All I would advocate is that if you see something out of order, call people on it. But do it sooner rather than later otherwise the damage is done anyway.

I may be wrong in saying this, but my understanding of this sort of thing is that people are often reluctant to speak out against it when the impression is - as I believe it is here - that the majority are accepting of the situation. As a result, most choose to ignore or tolerate; I've chosen to put my two pence in.
I can't say I've been overwhelmed with messages of support - but hey, I like to think that the people who objected to this thread probably have it on ignore, so don't even know what's going on here anymore. Maybe I should put the thread on ignore, but it's still 'here' - and I generally don't like to ignore threads just in case they end up with pictures of naked sailors or skateboarding chimps.
Comparison to "distasteful political parties" is all well and good, but the issue here is that those political parties are often the minority view, and so people feel more comfortable challenging them and their views. When it appears that those views are those of the majority, people, as I've already suggested, are less likely to speak out. For me, the tags suggest there are people who don't like the thread, but don't feel comfortable openly saying so.
Like I said in my last post, I'm not looking to start a huge debate on whether this thread taking the course it has is acceptable - I'm just saying that I'm one person who doesn't like the tone it's set.

to the guy on the right, "we know what you're looking at!" The fact thathe's checking her out answers why this is here. There's nothing wrong with it.
On another forum Bikeradar, in competition to the 'Girls in Lycra shorts" thread, the girls started a Boys in lycra shorts thread. I was horrified that this could be allowed in the 21st century...... Or not.
We are all adults, as has been said an intelligent bunch.

Right, just found this on facebook on a friends page (yes she's my friend).
I'm taking it to Scandinavia right now. It's not fixed, but it is a Stokholm City Bike so I think that makes it kinda cool.

*Way to talk down to somebody who is clearly one of the smartest, most thoughtful people on the forum. *Your post fit that, but it's a bit silly to go off on one about how you're troubled by the existence of something so silly as a thread on a forum.
Mooks didn't 'go off on one'; his post was considered and measured, as his posts tend to be. Again, congrats on patronising him. Seems to me that, finally, one of the people on here who finds this thread unpleasant spoke up with their objections and clearly he has some support. If that is silly then...

oh come on now. this is an internet forum about bikes, and its clearly a male dominated area for blokes that are into bikes. men like woman, and looking at pictures of women. women and bikes = nice to look at.
theres not any more to it than that. its not like hardcore "fill every hole" porn is being posted, i cant see why anyone would be offended. the tags are just people having a laugh, i cant imagine why anyone would have a wank over anything in here when its pretty innocent stuff really and theres the whole internet out there.
my girlfriend did ask what i was looking at once while in this thread, and i just told her exactly what it is. she just told me im a bike nerd for the millionth time and we got on with our lifes.

wouldn't it be nice if it was a bit less male dominated? or do you not like girls and bikes? oh wait, you do. but only with no clothes on. OK.

it's just kinda lame. I've met quite a few girls who used to post on this forum who don't anymore because they're fed up with the lame sexist bullshit all the time. I imagine they don't bother telling the men that, because you get the magnificent 'yeah but you're just jealous' (yeah cos we don't see pictures of naked women all the fucking time) or 'stop being such a man-hating feminist lunatic' (my personal favourite).
SO in conclusion: tags are probably not just people having a laugh. (it wasn't me by the way, I don't know how you add tags.)
hanyway I have the thread on ignore, so whatever; it was just brought to my attention that someone was taking a revolutionary stand so I thought I'd rock up and talk some feminism at you.
But I love you all, you sexist bastards.
He's got a wide centre stand, at the front in contrast to modern practise, and she's got her foot on his saddle.
The real trick for her is going to be the mount/dismount without the usual frame mounted step of a conventional ordinary. The treadle power, instead of rotating cranks, is interesting too.
