Chaps and chapettes, is there any good bike bag that can be packed away to backpack proportions to facilitate hopping straight on your bike and cycling off from the airport? I'm thinking along the lines of being able to bring my bike on a weekend jaunt to London from Dublin so anything that would work with that come to mind?

Which airport? Don’t think you can ride out of Heathrow, frinstance.

Central, also that Ground Effect Tardis looks ace! Cheers for the recommendation!

You can definitely ride out of Heathrow...or at least some of the terminals. Have done it in the past, dumping cardboard box and assembling on the footpath...That being said, not particularly cycle friendly

Need a bike bag to ride on a Thalys train from Amsterdam to Brussels over Easter ... does the forum know of any super cheap and light things I can use just to cover it up so it's allowed on the train?
Would a sheet and a load of duct tape be allowed?

'Travelling with a bicycle
Storage spaces on board are limited, thus only a small number of bicycles are accepted and certain rules must be adhered to: Both wheels of the bike must be removed and it must be contained in a cover of max. 135 x 85 x 30 cm, that must enwrap the whole dismantled bike' -

Nice design, but over priced for what it is?
£380 plus shipping, for a soft padded bag that doesn’t pack down.
If you’re going to shell out that much for piece of mind wouldn’t you go hard case?
Even though I haven’t used it in a couple of years still love my ground effect tardis, and all it entails to pack it.If the cost was under £200 would consider it. Also anywhere that isn’t the US doesn’t charge you extra for flying with a bike or they didn’t when I took mine round the world. So it’s just part of your normallyggave allowance..

Hi all,
I've borrowed a bike bag from work that weighs in at 12kg.
This with the bike inside puts me well over the 23kg BA allowance!
I think I'll just grab a cardboard box from my LBS, does anyone want to make a guestimate on how much these weigh? Thinking sub 10kg for sure?
-

last bike box i had was about 5kg i think

That Tardis bag looks pretty good... what were you packing in it? The site says it'll take a full suspension 29er but it seems so small!

track frame 56cm square, wheels, tool bag, small bag of soft clothing, small folding trolley, bungee cords.
have a picture of my bike packed, but can't find it, here's one I found online
you'll need pipe lagging to go round the frame, rear triangle, forks to avoid dents and dings.
I didn't break my bike down totally, handlebars off, seatpost out, pedals off, left on cranks. -

That looks surprisingly spacious. Would you be willing to rent yours out? Ideally want to try before I buy.

I'm ooking to buy a bike bag the Evoc bags seem to be good but is there a better option out there?
-
• #322
I have a Pika EEP and it is very good but having never used an Evoc can’t say if it’s better or not.
Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

Did you go Evoc how is it?
I’ve got an XL Road frame.
I’m going away in April so was thinking of buying but if someone could rent me theirs or have it on stand by should I not get one before that’d be great. -
• #324
I did indeed and it was great and pretty easy to sort out. Where are you based? I won't be using mine in April so could rent out if you need it. How big is xl?

Sorry been away. I’m in Brockley.
How about you? 60cm for the frame
He is in the EU.
