  • I went from a set of Vuka Alumina's like yours to PDQ + Tririg Sigma stem - was measurably quicker.
PDQs are up for sale on TT forum now as I have gotten hold of a set of 3t Ventus mk1s, the Tririg stem will also be up for sale providing I can get a replacement set of forks (otherwise the ventus bars will be up for sale)

  • Cool, let me know about the stem.

Your mention of forks reminds me that I need to keep an eye out for some A900 again.

  • I have a Hongfu HB-029 (nearly identical to PDQ/ADR) just removed from my bike.
(Can't get quite low enough so migrated to USE TR2 clip-ons and a Syntace Stratos CX bar)
Got all spacers & screws, uncut carbon extensions, some DIY stuff I made to match it (carbon BTA mount, carbon garmin mount, couple of pairs of neoprene pads because the factory ones are shit), and just rattlecanned the base bar matte black after the horns became a bit glossed up over time. Will post for £125 (PM me)
P.S. your old A900s are being very well looked after xx

  • Hongfu HB-029

Thanks for the offer! Based on Google pics, am I right in saying arm-rest position is only adjustable by way of the arm rest bolt holes? Cheers

  • Yeah, you can't change the width of the extensions, but can use the mounts of the arm rests to change their width.

  • @Lukas Do you have any more neoprene pads/material? Could do with some spares after my Zipps have deformed.

  • ^What Dan said
You can also swap the extension clamps over so the armrest mount holes, and thus the armrests, are mounted inboard of the spacer stacks.

    Narrowest:

  • I bought some the other day but need it to make some better pads for my USE ones. Will let you what is spare after they're done, ha

Interesting design but not sure I'd trust one bolt to hold the bars up on UK roads.

  • A single bolt is enough for most seat clamps, and they take a heavier load than aerobars.

  • Want that.

  • also, if you have a short head tube, and put the extender down at the bottom it will rub on the front wheel, combine those two features, and you get awesome death.

  • Good point. I swapped to Zipp Vuka 2-bolt armpads though as the single-bolt ones I had kept rotating over time. I guess it depends on how the clamping actually works.

  • I think if that was a risk I'd just trim the extender. I have a massive head tube on the Shiv so not likely to happen to me. I wanted the X bars though. I wonder if that means the X bars are cheaper now?

May or may not be more effective than getting your partner to yell "LOWER" while hitting you with a stick during a turbo session.

  • Someone should tell them what the "d" in CdA is.

All you can say for certain about the lowest position, is that it's the lowest position.

  • It's a bit early, but fuck it!

  • *Bodge Alert*

I have a Raltec rear wheel cover that has a slight warp in one particular section which meets the rim - I assume I’d been a bit too heavy-handed when removing.

As it is not structural, I was thinking of applying some heat to help return it to the original shape. How hot would I need to go? It seems like there’s barely any resin - would a hairdryer suffice?

  • Can you just tape it down so it holds its shape? That's what I tend to do with disc covers.
Also, if you adjust the tension of the plugs, it moves the inny/outty bits.

  • Its for a shallow rim, so the only thing you can tape to is the brake track.

True Re: Plugs, but annoyingly the warp is on a section between plugs.

  • Yeah, I'd still suggest having a play around with how tight you make the plugs. I found you could tweak out most of the ripples by slightly rotating it or adjusting how tight the plugs were.

  • I'm considering getting some narrow / aero bars for my track bike - looking at either the Scatto 35cm or Alpina 33cm. I can get the drops of either bar as low as I require so it's really down to the aero/width benefits of the two. I currently ride 36 on the track so going narrower shouldn't be too much issue.
I've spoken to a couple of people and am learning slightly towards the Scatto but does anyone here have experience of either or both? Interested to hear from anyone with any advice that would help me choose one over the other.

  • With the scattos it's kind of hard to ride on the tops or to do madison changes (still doable but not as comfy or secure as alpinas). You can usually get the aplinas secondhand the odd time too.

I've been on 35cm scattos the last few years and I'm going to get another set soon. If I stumble on a set of alpinas cheap I'd probably change but I like that I can run the scattos with a lower stem.

No real idea on the aeroness of either though

  • Thanks Boredom, confirms what I thought after grabbing the tops of a set - that's possible to hold them near the clamp area but riding on the tops isn't hugely secure or even that comfortable. Usually stay in position once on the track though so not really an issue.
They're out of stock pretty much every atm but lets see what offers January brings
